I built new system, partially (some stuff from prev pc):
GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
955 + AS5 + TRUE Black + 1x 90 cfm fan (both cpu and hsf tried to lap, dunno if it helps, but I did it as could)
2x2GB Patriot Viper II PC3-12800
old sapphire 4850 and HX620 PSU.

The mobo mounted on wall, with most of the cables behind it. Maybe looks ugly on the pic, but I like it. Saved money on case + good airflow and I can direct that cpu fan toward graphic card, so it wont take its' hot air instead :)

Well there's nothing much I can say about the motherboard, since I have it few days, and can't compare it to anything, as its my first AMD system. The only thing to note is that there's problem with the 2 memory slots close to cpu and hsf as wide as TRUE. The heatsink blocking these slots. I could still plug some ram as high as my vipers, before putting the heatsink, but thats the limit. At least I can still run dual channel with the other 2 slots, thanks to this next to each other design of paired slots on AMD boards, unlike intel's. Except that nice leds on the power/rest/clr cmos buttons. Easy to see in dark :)

The memory is just 1033 cas 7 for now and already hot to touch while stress testing...

CPU stress testing now with stock volltage 200x18 (3600 mhz) running prime95 blend for more than hour. load temps 46-47, without case, within air conditioned room. Increasig multi further to 18.5 (3700mhz) make BSOD after some time. So next step is playing CPU voltage, I guess.

Now I got some questions about ocing this... EDIT: i'll try to asnswer some of my own questions from experience so far:

Should I OC this base clock above 200? or just increasing multipliers will be more beneficial and stable? Since it effect both HTT, NB and RAM speed too, while changing just multi I can control each setting individually. Or the point is to find the highest base clock for all + highest multi for all?
Somehow rising the bclk and lowering the multi is more stable with the same final speed. So sometimes its better to mix and find the balance.

Is there any point to OC NB and HTT anyway?
Still not sure about HTT, but NB improove L3 chache and ram latency and bandwidth.

In OverDrive there's NB VID and NB Core voltage. Should I bother with NB core? if yes what case?
NB VID is the CPU/NB aka IMC, while the NB core is the one that connect CPU to PCEe and SB. SO this external NB and SB voltages are not important for main system OC.

What about HTT voltage? What's voltage effect it, if any?

Does AMD boards usually have option to disable vdroop, like I had on ASUS P5Q-Pro?
I confused it with the fact that the actual voltage is abit lower than what you set, but its constant, and doesn't change with load or idle state. So its not counted as vdroop.

No need to raise the HTT above 200mhz with an unlocked CPU multiplier and an unlocked North Bridge multiplier.

Raising the NorthBridge frequency will give you better RAM performance. I use 2800Mhz 1.25v.

No vdroop options, but with the 790FX chipset I haven't seen any vdroop, or very minimal.

you maybe want to add one more fan for the cooler.

I use 2 fans with TRUeX (not the black version) and its keeping my PII X2 550 very cool, even when OCed to 4ghz@1.55v (28-32°C idle, 38-42°C load while crunching F@H, never bothered with prime95 or orthos)

if you OC base clock, you can raise RAM speed. also, it raise NB frequency and HT Link Frequency too..which I recall, increasing memory performance.

you might want to raise CPU-NB volt if you running high NB frequency i.e >2400mhz NB freq
and about NB VID...well I guess this is CPU-NB, I never change CPU VID and CPU-NB VID though

raising HTT voltage helps if you run high base clock above 300mhz provided you cpu able to handle that

That is just bad ass using the wall for the case, I like it. As for OC'ing I am just about to tread into that with my new P2 955 chip I Got in today from Sop, so Ill be in the same boat as you.

Ok thanks for comments :)
So I've done some testing by playing only with cpu voltage and cpu multi, and x18.5 (3700mhz) seems the max I can use without bsod while running prime95 blend. Its annoying since x18.5 seems to work after 1.365v, just 1 bump from dafault, and x19 (3800mhz) unstable all way up to 1.5v+. I think its pointless to rise the voltage further for another x0.5.
So I've added 2nd fan, that I have lying spare: 1,900 rpm 37.00 dBA 110.31CFM. Its quite noisy so its temporary.
Now I'll try increase base clock slightly: 18.5 x 208 @ 1.5v (3848 mhz). Load temps <56c.
Overall I starting being disappointed, since I hoped to reach 4ghz easily, but it seems limited to just x18.5 with all that voltage range of more than 0.185v.

If it is maxed out @18.5 multi then you have to raise base clock.
You have to run it sub-zero to be able to run@>18.5 multi.

PII & AII likes cold condition.the colder the better OC.

Try a washer-mod for your TRUeX.might reduce a couple degrees

How does it work? More pressure or heat absorption?

So I've added a washer and seems temps really dropped at least 2c. But I still can't run prime95 blend test for long at ~3800 mhz. Usually in less than 2 hours pc reboots. I've tried many settings of bclk x multi, and voltage range of 1.4-1.5 for each. So I give up on the 3.8 for now, and see if 3.7 at least stable at 1.4-1.5 volts.

well it depends on your comp usage. do you frequently stressing your cpu to the max all the time?
if no, 1 hour prime95 is enough (for me).

gaming rarely stress cpu core max all the time.

Yes I read that many times, but still I agree with Tau post in this thread
What people fail to realise is that the blanket term "my computer is 100% stable" after 4 hours of prime95/occt is garbage. Or the fact that you can "game for hours" without a crash means nothing.
Running a machine that is not 100% stable (by 100% i mean 24 hours of prime/occt/linepack (not just one, all of them) can actually cause harm to your hardware.
I don't know about hardware damage, but I like perfection :)

Now back to what I've done with testing of 3700 mhz so far:
200 x 18.5 @ 1.4v: OCCT Large data set, reboot after some hours
212 x 17.5 @ 1.4v OCCT Large data set, 26 hours complete then I stop. Prime95 blend reboot after 8 hours, temps 46-47 and room temp about 21c-22c with air con.

So now I test 212 x 17.5 @ 1.425v with prime95 blend, while simultaneously playing games sometimes. I can only tell now that the temps risen to 49-50

Since my 955 needs a lot more voltage to OC just a few hundred MHz, I just left it at 3.2GHz and lowered the voltage to 1.250v to keep it cool. I'm still testing the stability of this VID at this frequency. Rig specs are in the drop-down box under my avatar.

I'm running it at 256*12.5, and my HT and NB are both running with a 10x multiplier.

After 3 weeks or so of testing I may have found the best stable setting for my system. Though it's still not confirmed, since I only did 10 hours or prime95 blend, and same with 3.6GHz (lower CPU multi to test memory setttings) for 24 hours. Temps were like 49-53 (about 23c air conditioned ambient). Now need more varied and thorough stress tests that may take another week, if it goes well. More benchmarks soon.
