My i5-750 is overclocked to 3.6, GPU stock clocks. the only physx game that i have was Batman Arkham Asylum.

5870+Physx OFF 1600x900

5870+GTS 250 Physx HIGH

Fluidmark

As you notice, the second port is providing good power to the physx card altought it's a 1.0 4x port.

4x is enough for almost all video cards, w1zzard proved that with his 5870 and GTX 480 testing.

That said, you proved a long standing point of mine with regards to PhysX... slows everything down for very little visual gain.

i think he proved this on 2.0 ports, mine is 1.0 4x that's equivalent to 2.0 2x and from his results that impact will be between 20-25 %

yeah... for a high end card. GTS 250 is less powerful than a 5870, so that 20% is greatly reduced... i'd say down to almost nothing.

This isnt to say your testing is worthless or whatever, i'm just saying its agreeing with the trends.

yup.

16x/4x on PCI-E 1.1 was only 12% slower than on 16x/16x 2.0 when i tested it. I may well have been CPU limited as well at the time, but the point still stands that 4x 1.0 aint a huge hit - especially not from single GPU cards.

I've seen somewhere that even a PCI-E 1.0 1x is enough for any GPU to do PhysX.

Realistically a single core of my CPU should be enough to do physics. Nvidia is brilliant with marketing and well, I'm just not going to get into it.

I will say that the Rocket Sled demo for the GTX4XX series is impressive in terms of physics.

how u made the physix work with ati card as the primary card and use nvidia card as secondary?
can you explain?

because i wil upgrade to a 5830 or 5850 in the future and want to use my old GTS 250 as a phyisx card.
