So i've been through quite a few blocks in the last few months under the impression that they all suck.. FInally ending up with this XSPC raystorm which has yielded the best temps to date.. but i'm wondering if something abnormal is going on. Or maybe i'm just expecting too much. Here is the setup

swiftech mcp655b
xspc rx360 rad
6 sickleflow 120mm fans
xspc raystorm
xspc dual bay res with pump mount for mcp655

overclock is 4.7Ghz @ 1.39v llc at 1

idle temps average around 29-33 with a 21c abient(case window off)
load temps are about 71-74

I"m using ic7 diamond and i've tried multiple mounts so i feel that the mount is good, and i'm using the included backplate with as much pressure as i can safely muster..

am i paranoid. or is something wrong, flow seems to be pretty good as well.

I've never put SB or IB under water (though around the holidays will have a 3570k under water), but those temps do seem really high for load.

My C2Duo sits at 20-23c idle, but never seen more than 50c under full load, even up to 4.7Ghz.

If flow is good and your sure the block is on right, you may just have a hot chip. Do you have any temps for stock speed and Vcore under load?

flow is good, ad the block is on right.. i'm just starting to think that it's a hot chip.

I just want to push for a higher clock, but i'm afraid of hitting high 70's or 80's.. is it safe to stress clocks at that temp.. it doesn't run nearly that high doing normal stuff.

My 2500K at 1.35v idles around 28 and loads about 49-51, and that's with two 5870s in the loop. Seems like a hot chip to me, unless the extra .04v makes that much of a difference, which I highly doubt.

Yeah.. perhaps it's time to procure an ivy bridge chip lol

my 2500k seems hot too, i get about the same temps at that voltage, maybe 2-3 degrees cooler nothing to write home about. i always assumed i had a dodgy heatspreader

temps might be a bit hot, but they are fine for 24/7. That's a wee bit much voltage though, should try to keep it under 1.35 V.

Some chips are just hotter than others...the hot ones are what the extreme guys are. Try enabling PLL overvolt and lowering PLL voltage to get lower temps..also watch VTT and VCCSA voltages, and get them as low as possible.

its a shame mine is hot, can do 5Ghz stable(ish) good enough for 3dmark etc at 1.41v and can get into windows at 5.5Ghz

i have pll overvolt enabled, what should i set the pll, vtt and vccsa at??

Ideally, PLL can drop to 1.65 V or lower. From the CPUs I played with, 1.45 V, 1.525V, 1.65V and 1.7V were common. Between that, not so much.

VTT, stock, if possible(1.05V), and VCCSA, just the same, stock(0.925V). For me, staying under VTT with VCCSA is best.

@cadaveca, once again man thank you.. i don't know how low i can go, i guess i'll let it idle overnight but i'm at 1.58v on the cpu pll, and .96 on vcct or whatever it was(i'm tired) primed it for about an hour at 4.8Ghz 1.39v which might be high given the fact that i've dropped the cpu pll.. but it's just breaking 70 and it's about 24c in my room right now

Cool beans; nice to hear to got it a bit more under control.

The higher clock, and lower temps, is nice too. :p

If you have issues resuming from sleep, it's the PLL overvolt, FYI. some systems have issues with it enabled.

I'm aware, i don't actually allow my computer to enter sleep mode.. it's usually doing something lol. I'm gonna tinker with it tonight and see what i can do.
