My XFX HD4830 adventures

There are a few spots I've seen differences but I'm not sure which refers to the shaders. Right now I'm testing one of the cards @ 750 core /1000 mem and after flashing the bios with the RBE 1.158 volt mod on 3 and 9. Running 3dmark06 right now.

After this card is done I'm gonna flash the other card, bumped the core up to 750, let it run, then slap the two together and see what CF performance is going to be like but I'm sure the 7750 isn't going to help matters much.

From what I've read 1.15 - 1.25v will net you 750MHz or so, and not much more. I can run up to 730MHz @ 1.25v, which ain't bad. Will be figuring out a vmod for 1.35v soon which should get me to around 820MHz. I'll also be looking into a vmem mod, 2.1v should get me to 2.2GHz.

First card ran great so putting the 2nd through the ringer. I've been taking some snips after 3dmark is done so if it's cool with you Ketxxx I can throw some up to show 700-750 difference in single card and crossfire.

I'm really starting to understand why people say these VF-900's aren't all that. Temps aren't bad compared to what I saw the stock get up to, 100+ Celcius; but seeing these cards reach 80+ just makes me uncomfortable. I might go grab some better 80mm fans and mod the fans onto the vf-900's.

Sure post up whatever. The VF900s are very good, my XFX doesn't go over 53c full load. I think how hot someones card gets is largely down to the power design of the card. In my case, it stays very cool

My 4830s never exceed 45c... Even when folding on 60% fan (Still silent ). No need for extra cooling for me.

Odd.. not sure why your card has lower temps than mine. lowest temps my card saw in furmark with the stock cooler is 60c or so, and that was with the fan @ 90%.

Where did you locate the ATI bios? the one in the TPU database generates device mismatches.

I'm running my XFX ATI 4830s memory @ 1150 and its 100% stable. Played hours of games, 3Dmarks in infinite loops, and Folding @ Home GPU.

@ the moment the memory is running @ 73.6 GB/Sec

I must of got a good batch!

Seems that way, both of my 4830s come with Samsung HJ1A, which is rated for 2GHz, however the memory is heavily under volted on my cards so it gets to 2GHz and not much over, which SUCKS. Bad, bad XFX. Volt components properly

I've been testing the memory @ 1150 MHz (2.3 GHz effectively) a bit longer, think I've ran 3D marks line 10 times now, we just finished a game of Age of Empires: Asian Dynasties which lasted about 1hr:20 mins. I'm more or less satisfied that its stable. I'm going to raise the bus about 20MHz and test again. But my feeling is that it fall over at 1200 MHz.

Once I'm satisfied its stable I'm going to move to the GPU clock next week

I'm willing to bet your cards also have Samsung HJ1A ICs, but XFX started volting them properly with the batch you have.

Which application will let me check the memory type?


At default volts I couldn't move the memory past 1050 MHz, anything over would result in a crash or artefacts. Once I moved the memory voltage to 1.3v from 1.258v I've been able to move to 1150 MHz so far without issues.

Do you want a copy of the bios?

You have a 1.3v option in your BIOS? 3 words: GIMME GIMME GIMME! your adjusting GPU voltage there not memory voltage. XFX volt their memory @ 1.74v, but for HJ1A it should be 2v. It makes sence your getting 1150MHz with 1.3v as the more voltage you feed the GPU, you also feed the memory controller with more voltage, which ATi have on the GPU die. Similar to how AMD do it with their CPUs.
