Hi.

Basically I would like a 24" (thereabouts) full HD monitor, with as high a contrast ratio as can, for the lowest price.

Samsung only, and if TV is built in, then im willing to pay up to £215, and if theres 3D (no idea about this yet and prices) then even more, maybe £250.

Basically will use it for gaming (fps' such as CoDBO, ACB, etc) and full HD blu-rays.

Thanks in advance.

If more info is needed, or clarification is needed, then please ask.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster XL2370. It's a good choice. It's LED backlit, 1920x1080, 23" screen.

for brighter display got to go with LED screen, i got XL2370 too,, amazing monitor,,was also thinking of 24" as i was buying but went with 23" because of smaller pixel pitch

I can still see the monitor you've suggested - so its not a wasted post, rather it is helpful! :toast:

Thanks guys, still considering my options...

That's a good one. You can't go wrong with Samsung (not that I've ever heard anyway). However, if you are mainly a gamer, occasionally watching movies, I would seriously consider going 1920x1200. Go 1080 if it's main use will be watching movies.

If you go 1920x1200, you will have a thin black bar at the top and bottom of your screen when watching movies. In that case, it's beneficial to get a larger monitor.

How about this one. Was looking at this before, but I saw that the other one had generally better reviews.

I was just doing the same thing a few weeks ago. See post here. I got the Hanns·G HZ251HPB at newegg. It was $198 and change at my door. As seen in the reviews there (not that I give them a lot of credit) but seems everyone likes them. I have now bought 3 of them. One for the boss one for me and one for a lady I know. So far Zero dead pixels that I can find. I have tried to find them. :) Im not saying there arent better out there but if your in the $200 range your job is cut out for ya.
The reasons I feel it was a excellent deal.
  • It has 3 Video Signal inputs HDMI DVI-D VGA (DVI to HDMI cable included)
  • The Response Time is better than most 2ms (GTG)
  • Larger viewable screen than the 24" models 24.6" viewable.
  • The Warranty is equal or better than others 3-Year Limited (3-Year Parts/Labor, 1-Year LCD/Backlight)
  • It is Full HD 1080P
  • Pixel Pitch 0.283(H) x 0.283(V) mm

The only cons anyone can really find are the same as found on any. The buttons are not where everyone thinks they should be. And the speaker quality is not some super high quality used for surround sound. However if you read the specs your not buying the speakers anyway your buying the monitor and the company threw some in as a perk. At least thats the way I look at it.

Now if you find another monitor that has all of the bold qualities above for under $200.00 I would be interested to see it.

The only exception I could find is for those who are stuck on name recognition buying. Hanns·G is not as well known as some of the other models but personally I never look at the name I'm to busy looking at the beautiful screen.

I think that the negative reviews on the SM2443BW are probably from folks who are used to CRT screens or IPS panels and they expect awesome viewing angles and perfect color reproduction. You aren't going to find a TN panel that can compete with, for example an Apple Cinema Display or a high-end Dell IPS.

To me, the SM2443BW looks like a solid option. If possible, you should look at it in person before purchase, just to be sure that it's up to your standards.

@Altered (and Nokiacrazi) : Hanns-G makes good stuff ;)

I have no idea on prices abroad, but my 2333T (23", not 24" though) with a PVA panel costs about the same as most TN panel 23" monitors out here.

Color reproduction is miles and miles ahead of my 2333SW and any other TN monitor I've seen so far.

How's the response time on that PVA? Do you get ghosting during gaming? The reason I like TN panels is there's virtually none of that.

I play with VSYNC on and I see no ghosting whatsoever. Even in Metro 2033 which can bring my framerates down to the 25fps mark I do not notice any problems.

The problem is that it is individual - I might not notice them, but you might. For viewing movies, however, it is definitely better than a TN monitor.

The adjustments on that one are awesome. I can't stand non-swiveling and non-height adjustable monitors. That's why I love my BX2440. Check it out.

Wheres the best place to get this from in the UK? Any suggestions?

I think e-buyer is the cheapest...but it would be good if I could go somewhere to see it.
