hello coMMUnity, :)

i am thinking to upgade my mobo to the 990fx killer by asrock and my cpu to fx-6300

my thoughts on these are:

well as for the mobo i have a piece of junk (from when i bought my pc as a whole back in 2009). so i was thinking for the killer since its new am3+, has awesome features, the reviews i read are good as i am not an overclocker.

about the cpu ( here is where i need feedback the most) i was thinking the fx-6300 cause its a cheap upgrade(105 euros) until amd releases a new fx. also a friend told me that the best cpu for my gpu is he i5-4440 and i thought oh... i5-4440 = fx-6300 no?

so anyway give some beer:toast: if i'm thinking straight or kick me in the balls :nutkick: if not

:peace:

Yo!
I've been rockin an Fx-6300 for a year now and can't fault it. Loads of juice a the touch of a button. (OC) though I hardly ever bother as it's hardly ever necessary. Never max'd out. No need for the extra expense of an i5.
For me it hit the sweet spot between price, performance and energy cost.
I tend to go Asus for mobos, the UEFI bios is very easy and very effective, magic step up from previous versions as you can edit it from the desktop. Some people slate it though there is no real reason to.
Your ASRock board looks pretty funky, however I'm not sure about the ease of use of the bios and last I looked their website was a bit primitive.

AM3+ is at the end of it's run, and no new FX procs are planned beyond the FX-9590. The FX-6300 shouldn't bottleneck your R9-270X, but it's not in the same league as Haswell or Ivy Bridge as far as raw computing power. On the upside, the AMD parts are dropping in price now, while Intel's Ivy Bridge and Haswell parts remain high. If most of what you do is gaming, go for the FX series, maybe even consider the FX-8320 8 core ($40 more than FX-6300) if you do any audio/video/photo editing or conversion.

@rhino
as i mentioned i go for asrock for its new cool features. i try to go asus for everything :p but in mobos they haven't brought anything for am3+ since m5a99fx pro. as for the bios i don't know a lot about it cause i rarely use it so i don't think thats going to be an issue in learning it since i'm not used with any bios at all.

@Hood
the difference for the 8320 is 35 euros more and i need my dose in gaming mostly. even if i do some editing its not going to be something big.

however i say that this is a temporary solution for this year hopefully not he next until amd gets some new pure cpus out there hopefully am3+.

Ahhh, I work with photoshop all the time and the only thing which slows down the rendering time is the version, CS5 or whatever version it is at the moment brings it's own performance boost, by the way CS2 is free on the Adobe website in case you didn't know.
What about DDR3 1600?
Does it really matter if AM3 is at the end of its run? It doesn't make it any less of a good CPU. It's already ahead of itself as far as performance capacity goes.
I sometimes wondered if I shouldn't have been such a numbers geek when I chose the FX6300 and just gone for the FX8350 as it is comparable to an i7 is some respects and I would also know that I had the best "under the bonnet" that AMD had to offer but, as I said, I'm happy with the FX6300. And I would notice the difference in the electricity bill.
IMHO nothing justifies paying the difference for Intel.

Oh you will use the bios when you see the new UEFI and what it's capable of, it's so easy it's not real. You just let it stress test your system and comes up with the max stable OC which you can switch on and off without even having to go into the bios.
It's the closest you will ever get to feeling like Hans Solo going into hyperdrive whilst sitting in front of your PC.

ddr3 1600 for sure my next upgrade. i have this cpu for 5 years now and i don't think it bottlenecks anything atm. i just have some extra budget to spend on some upgrades and i think i mentioned the most important,

I was wondering about that, your current CPU is already quite respectable.
FWIW I sold my previous Intel rig on ebay and made enough to pay for the new AMD rig.
