I have an MSI Tri-Frozer RTX 2070 GPU brand new sitting in the box that I got for free about two months ago! I would love to be running that GPU in place of my current EVGA Black GTX 1660, but I'm not sure it would benefit me much given my current system specs and am not able to do a new build at the moment although I really need to since I use my PC mainly for Flight Simulation ( Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020) which can be quite taxing on a system! I guess my main concerns are my PSU and CPU.
Thanks!!!

Current System Specs:
Intel i5-8400
GTX 1660
16GB ADATA DDR4 RAM@2666 MHz
256GB SSD
1TB HDD
500W PSU

What's your monitor?

Depending what games you play, I think a PC always benefits from a GPU upgrade

From what I've seen FS2020 just doesn't run very well, even on powerful PC's.
The 2070 should give some improvement over 1660.
A generic 500 watt PSU may not be adequate.
I'd try to turn that 1660 into a better PSU and put the 2070 to work!

So sell the 1660 to finance a higher power quality PSU and run the 2070? Also, will the 2070 pair up ok with my i5-8400 as far as bottlenecking goes??

What?? A 500W LITEON PSU is no good?o_O Lol!

it more like 430 watts w/220 watts (18 amps) for graphics(?). pretty sure only 2*6 pin (150 watts) power and not 6+8 (225 watts). that 2070 runs around 190 - 225 watts.
trip city.

Not very sure how heavy of a load the flight simulator will put on the CPU but your 6 core CPU should be fine for most games

It does have a 6+8 Pin but that really doesn't matter when the PSU is trash to begin with.

oh i knew it was trash but having the 6+8 is a hazard. i hate waste so maybe keep to trickle charge a battery.

naw, it still might blow up. :shadedshu:

Before you sell the 1660, are you sure the new card works? Might want to at least power it on first.

Good advice! I did that awhile ago, used it for a day or 2 but was getting Vrel/Vop under Perf Cap Reason in the GPU-Z Sensors. Otherwise, the 2070 is Brand New!

As others suggested a new PSU should be in place... regarding your build, specially the CPU should still be able to keep up with the RTX 2070. Just try to put more load on GPU side, if you feel the CPU is at bottleneck, and push high quality on the higher resolution you have, that should help put more usage on GPU instead of CPU.

At least this worked when I had an i5-3570k with GTX 780 and did an upgrade to a GTX 1070. Higher resolution worked great putting less stress on the cpu, I still have the PC running great with some OC on the CPU though.
