Hey Guys,

My current system is in my specs. I will be giving that to my girlfriend and I am building a new rig for myself. I just purchased an i7 950 a week or two ago, it's still BNIB. It's the only piece I have for my upgrade to LGA 1366. Should I sell it and go to LGA 1155 with an i5 2500k/i6 2600k and P67 or keep the i7 950 and get an x58? I mostly game and do a little Photoshop work every now and then. I don't really encode movies or anything but I do stream them using PS3 Media Server (My Q6600 more than keeps up with that so I don't see it being an issue).

Oh and yes, I will be overclocking either CPU on water :)

Thanks!

keep the i7 950 either giving back for a restocking fee or selling it would net a loss and the difference isn't worth the fret.

You likely got a great deal on the 950. Great chip and it will easily do anything you want for some time to come.

The 950 is a great chip, but x58 is basically a dead end.

Might be a good idea to sell the 950 and upgrade to Sandy Bridge or to the new AMD platform (Bulldozer I think, but we have yet to see how it'll perform...)

Well I can guarantee I wouldn't be taking a loss on the 950.

Depends. I would say, stay with it. Why? Cause X58 it's on it's peak now. You can buy the best mobos & memory for it at the best price they'll ever be.

me personally, I'm going from a qx9770 @ 4.3 to a sandy bridge 2600k on either a EVGA or MSI board. Aiming for 4.6ghz on air.

Sandy Bridge gets my vote, but only if you are not crossfiring your graphics card. the P67 or H67 or whatever the new motherboard is can only support 20PCIe lanes if I am not wrong.

Sandy bridge to me is an i3/low end i5 replacement with better memory use. I would stick with the X58 for now.

Exactly my thinking. Stick with X58.
