System Name 15 systems running boinc all built from parts individually bought and new and used except Area51
Processor i9-7900x, 2@Q9650, x5470, 3@Q9550, i7-950, 2@x5680, 6@E5620, x5675, x5570
Motherboard 3@dell, 4@msi, eVga, 3@asus, gigabyte, 3@hp. One of dell is Area51 only one I ever bought complete.
Cooling all of the hex core are liquid cooled as well as the Q9650s and that i9 & i7
Memory 8 to 12 gb except Area51 has 32.
Video Card(s) 570, 650ti, 670, 770, 1050ti, 1060, 1070, & rx570, 7850, 7950 & yes, I contributed to 1070 shortage
Storage 64+ TB in USB3 storage, all for my blu-ray & dvd collection.
Display(s) Pair of 23 inch cheap.
Case One is LianLI one of my kids gave me, about 1/2 are open air boinc farm. Can I pimp them?
Audio Device(s) Yes, got a Yamaha amp and 7.1 speakers
Power Supply tried to get all 80+ bronze or gold, but some are losers
Mouse Yes. I hate glides but sometime got to use them. Optical track-ball nice but out of my price range
Keyboard Surface pro 4 has a keyboard that keeps falling off.
Software 3@ubuntu, 11 @ windows 10. My kids run several macs and a win7 system.
Benchmark Scores About 80-90 grc a day but will drop out of the grcpool and start solo mining shortly
I thought I could use a sharp point solder pen but it looks like there is not much of an edge to solder to. I can clean off the edge and try to re-solder it. I have a rework station but the one time I used the hot air device it didn't get hot enough to melt old solder.

The device is marked 330. I have a defective vid board with chips that look similar but they are marked 430

clean with alcohol and stiff chem brush and then...

1. Use sharp tip and solder

2. put tiny dab of solder on joint and try the air device?

Just zoomed in at the image and C766 is missing. This just got more complicated. Have no idea what size cap is the correct replacement. The two "parts only" board I got do not have those type of caps.

Card works but temps quickly hit 93c. I don't see a problem with cooling: The heat sink was not hot but the back of the board had a hot spot that I felt and that got me to looking at it., Maybe the temp sensors is not working. I will try soldering it back on. This is an ebay item and I already wrote to the seller about the problem The items was advertised as one fan not working.

What is the purpose of the black item marked 330? I don't mind soldering it on but I don't have any caps for the missing item.

@OP

You are using the wrong type of soldering tip. Pointed soldering tip can be used, but you need very good soldering skill to get around the problems of using such a small soldering tip. This is a mistake some user do. Having a strong wattage soldering iron is not good enough, you must have the correct type of soldering tip also.

EXAMPLE: I have around 18 different types of soldering tips for my workstation, which I can change on-a-fly.

To me it looks like someone was not taking care of that board as you can clearly see those capacitors has been knocked off. That's not a fault of something coming loose.

If you have a rework station, then this should not be a problem for you.

EDIT: C776 is a ceramic capacitor & should be around the same value as one of the other capacitors nearby.

330d looks like a Panasonic 2v capacitor, but you don't need to change that, just solder it back on if the soldering tab is still there.

I am confident I can solder the 330 back on after cleaning the board. It is the type 0805 that concerns me. I am guessing i will have to use the air solder tool. I do have silver conductive "ink" that is easy to apply. I have no idea what value capacitor to replace it with. There is a kit on ebay here http://tinyurl.com/rt9fb3g but I dont need 1,100 pieces. Any suggestion on what value to get. I assume the silver ink can work although that area of the board is where I felt the high temps.

Clean the board with electronic contact cleaner. I'd look at the pads even. To attach a wire to a pad I would put a solder ball on the pad then hold the wire above the ball, reheat the pad/ball and then while holding iron move wire into ball then remove the iron.

zotac gtx 1070 "mini"

@eidairamain1

If I understand your suggestion correctly: I can use a "disc" type cap and avoid having to solder an SMT. IMHO, that is actually easier to do and since this board is in an open air mining rig there is plenty of space for for the "disc" to hang out. The disc ceramic assortments are available here locally unlike the SMT.

Looks like the tab broke off the 330mF Tantalum cap, so you'll have to find a replacement. A 430mF tantalum cap from the scrap part would work fine as a replacement btw.

If the card works fine without the small ceramic cap I wouldn't worry about replacing that one, just clean up the pads a bit.

Yes, not much left of the tab. I ordered exact replacement SMT from china for $5. I was advised by the ebay seller to use chip-quik and watched an incredible video here
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmD7F0--7Lc
Never knew anything like that existed! add $20 for that product. I might be able to salvage an HD7950 with a bad MOSFET using that product as well.
I remove the https from the youtube as the dang video was being shown in the preview.
