Hi TPU!
I'm planning on buying a HD 7950, so please don't tell me that a gtx or 7970 or what else is better, thanks :respect:
What I want from the card:
-good vrm cooling
-good gpu cooling
-lesser noise as possible
Also I'm planning on overclock it with stock cooler :)
So what is the best HD 7950 out there?
I was thinkin of the gigabyte windforce one or the sapphire oc non vapor-x would be good, but I don't know...
So please any advice on it accordin to your axperience will be good
Thank you in advance

Gigabyte is cheapest usually, the cooler is absolutely awesome, but can get noisy. I'd say the Asus DirectCUII is the best in terms of cooling/performance/noise, but they're pretty expensive compared to the Gigabyte. I've had a few Gigabyte cards, so I'll +1 them.

you get lucky with the overclocking thing.

some are voltage locked and some arent.

reference cards sometimes overclock like gods and some dont.

from my experience this asus can oc up to 1200/1800 and keep temps below 65*c with decent fan curve.

but i got lucky!

gigas are good but noisy ^^ and friggin ugly tbh

i knew of a saphirre vapor x that overclocked well on core but not mem (elpida chips) but cooling was average!

my advice if im brutally honest, buy one. if it sucks send it back.

havent heard much on the msi twinfrorz lately.

oh and another way to tell on a good overclocker is check 3dmark results, theres usually a couple cards that stick out for good clocks and benches!

(mine muahhahahaahaha)

Hi

The Asus may have unresolved issues at this time [best to keep away from these vga cards until Asus fixes this]

"Asus DirectCUII HD 7950 cooling/performance/noise"

This makes for a good Read here

This is also of interest here

Note: not sure if Asus have taken any action at this point in time

Easiest way to check on the Gigabyte is to look at the sticker, and peel it off to see the actual revision underneat. Usually the 7970 PCB ones are unlocked with the 8+6pin power. At least in my experience that has been the case.

Stay away from XFX too. Their Double Dissipation cooler is hit or a miss. Poor cooling efficiency and you'll go deaf on the fan noise.

Correct. I had two, one hit 81 degrees (second slot) on full, the other hit 67 degrees(first slot), both fully loaded in benches in Crossfire.

I would get the MSI TF3,i have the gigabyte one and its pretty good but its lacking in some departments, voltage is locked at 1.25v and while the cooler does handle it and stay whisper quiet its still kind of annoying not being able to control voltage, also it lacks VRM temperature sensors, the MSI ones cooler is on par with the gigabyte one and it has both gpu and memory voltages unlocked.

Your temps is fairly decent compared to mine. It goes above 70 on stock settings with fan set to 75%. Had it overclocked a bit to 960/1370 and it goes above 75 to near 80 depending on the game. Tried 1050 on core once, the clock throttled after going past 85c on 100% fan :banghead: . My guess is the VRM is going crazy, as I have no way of finding out the temps, it doesn't have any vrm sensor. I fully regret buying this card. Already tried replacing the TIM, the temps barely shows any difference. Planning to replace the stock cooler with a Kuhler 620. Hopefully I could overclock it further as it should suppose to.

You can get one these:
http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/502/accelero-xtreme-7970.html?c=2182
The cooling capacity of this cooler is phenomenal,it is very large and heavy though,it cracked the PCB on my sapphire 7950,most likely due to my mishandling (but due to the way warranty on computer components works here in israel i got a windforce 3 as a replacement in a couple of days).

I'm pretty sure he wants to overclock with stock cooling, hence the thread.

It is a nice cooler that you linked though.

Not bad cards, I am pretty sure I can get more clockspeed out of the GPU, not sure on the memory it's got the cheap IC's on both cards. That being said they run cool and quiet. That was after about an hour playing tomb raider maxed out, in a small case.
