Need help choosing Motherboard.

Hi all. I'm getting i7-8700k and i can't choose motherboard. I want to get something good but not overkill. I'm going with Gigabyte brand because i have been using it all my life and don't want to give myself a headache by expanding my search with different brands. lol. I need at least recommendations for chipset to look for, i know for my system i should look for Zxxx but would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations.

No Z390 on their site yet so it's tough to make a solid recommendation. Knowing a whole new tier of motherboards are going to be released using that chipset. Overkill using the current fastest processor for Z motherboards is somewhat of a personal choice as well. Off the top of my head I don't remember what if anything Gigabyte announced at Computex. That is where I would start narrowing things down. If you don't absolutely need what the new boards offer you might actually have a case for advice sorting through all their current options in Z370.

Take your pick! I note while the motherboard's performance certainly plays a role in overall computer performance, it is but one factor in the equation. The type and amount of RAM, graphics solution, and drive access (SSD vs HD, for example) all factor in. If the budget is a factor, I sure would not hesitate to go for a less expensive motherboard in favor of more RAM (at least 8GB, preferably 2 x 8GB for 16GB total), a better graphics solution, and certainly a SSD over a hard drive. And remember, the slowest SSD can run circles around the fastest hard drive. And last but certainly not least, don't cut corners on the budget with a cheap power supply. Get a quality supply, at least 80 PLUS Bronze (Gold is preferred) from a quality maker.

My budget is around 250$. Already ordered GTX1080, and planning to get DDR4 16GB and i have SSD already. Also going with Z370 chipset to maximize preformance of my build.


Oh and for power supply planning to get Corsair RM650i

Well, all I can offer is we recently did a build with this Gigabyte Z370 HD3P with 2 x 8GB G.Skill DDR3 3600 and the client has no complaints.
