I have both those drives, one 250gb seagate and a 320 WD. My seagate is actually louder than my WD. I never here the WD, but the seagate makes this weird "click" sound when it starts to spin/search. Just one click, not continous.

oh well I went ahead and got the samsung drive. So hopefully that one will work out for me.

the samsung f1 series are currently the highest performing regular drives you can get.

looks good, but a sata 3.0 version would be a better pick i'd say.

Yeah thats the only thing I am worried about. Hopefully I will get a good one, if not I am just going to wait for a deal at frys. I am getting tired of waiting for shipping.

Im just saying if he needs more capacity for the same price he can get a 300GB over a 250GB for a small speed decrease. Hard drives are usually a bottleneck to any system nowadays.

said it yourself man, hdd's are THE bottleneck to all systems.. thats why i really do believe in getting the fastest hdd you can, while staying at a reasonable size and price.

Speed, noise, and price are the most important things. Size isnt really a big deal, I am happy with anything over 200 gb. I ended up going with the 320gb samsung anyways. The drive should have good performance and is even bigger than the 300 gb seagate.

every drive is very quiet, they're fast, and they're cheap. havent had any fail yet either, and i've been using heaps of em.

Software Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 / Ubuntu 14.04
I got the HDD today and so far it is working great. I am setting up a XP/Vista dual boot right now. It seems very fast and is silent for the most part. Couldn't be happier.

ahh!!! I take back what I said the HDD is just as loud as the western digital. Looks like ill be calling newegg tomorrow. I am not paying for shipping again. Both items were described as silent drives. For what I have spent so far on shipping and restocking fees I could have bought a really nice HDD.
