Need help on indentifying whether the harddisk was faulty or not?

Hello everyone
I recently got a second hand harddrive which happened to be faulty.
The guy that I bought this from, says when I tested this using HD Sentinel, the health was 100! that means it was healthy and you did sth to it!
I really dont know anything abou HD Sentinel, but I have found https://malwaretips.com/threads/hard-disk-sentinel-pro.56064/ which says :

Now we go deeper in the software, monitoring the drive is one thing but sometime you have to test it to detect some inconsistencies, damaged clusters and even hardware & mechanical issues.
Some tests are inoffensive to the stored datas while others may destroy them.

Generally, two different tests are available: hardware self test, and software testing (both are available in Hard Disk Sentinel). The later category contains the random seek time test also, which is a special test as it does not verifies the surface, just the seek capabilities of the drive.

The hardware tests can be better than software methods because they can examine the disk system and components (for example head, servo, electric components and so) by a special way which is not possible by software methods. It does not affect the stored information so they can be used any time (on IDE and S-ATA hard disks which support them), without any special preparation or backup. The use of hardware tests are recommended periodically, especially on perfect (or near perfect) disks to reveal any hidden problems.

In some cases, these hardware tests (Disk -> Short self test, Disk -> Extended self test) are not available, not supported or they result in an error quickly even in relatively low number of problems. No further information is returned about the result, for example it is not possible to list the sector(s) which are damaged. In such case, an appropriate software testing method is required.

When we speak about software testing, it is important to know that the WRITE operation affecting the disk surface is the most important: this forces the hard disk to verify the integrity of the data sector, reallocate it if required and repair weak sector. Because of this, all READ type tests (for example, scandisk but the format also) cannot be used to repair disk problems (and in many cases they even can't detect such problems). Scandisk verifies and fixes logical errors only (file system related errors) which are not really connected to physical disk status, errors (this is why they usually vanish after complete re-partition and re-format of the disk).

HDS support 3 kinds of drive's integrity tests :

basically it says, you have to run those hardware tests to ensure everything is 100% .
I'm not a professional in anyway, so I'd greatly appreciate if you could kindly shed somelight on this and say if it was faulty from the beginning or not.
if not, what could I have possibly done for a hard drive to be this faulty!! I didnt drop it, I didnt do anything with it, just installed it in my retro pc, and tried to install windows xp
which I faced PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error , I had only 1 Gig of ram , so I thought maybe that was the casue, I bought another 3Gigs and then issues popped up one after another
I couldnt copy 2Gigs of file from my desktop to another partition, I'd get Cyclic redundancy check error!!! the hard disk would freeze, when I'd copy 2 to 10 gigs of files, and just crash after war!
I have got several BSODs from just trying to backing up my files.

With any hard drive use the manufactures diagnostics. In this case use WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics

But the drive looks to be toast. Short of dropping it or damaging a pin. You probably didn't do anything to it.

could be disk alr weak, did it show strange systom? like weird noise coming from drives? also might worth to try replace the controller connector, im not sure abt how it work aswell, but i just do 2 thing like i mention above, mostly fixed my failure 3.5 storage, even the health show on 40% below, still capable as file storage, not sure for hard use like gaming progress nontheless
note: sentinel or any other storage monitoring software is indeed usefull, but me personaly dont trusting 100% on it, maybe becouse ive no idea how it work, someone might found it very usefull since they understand how it work, still again it wont work for me

If the SMART data says it is toast, it's dead or soon to be. The only other possibility MIGHT be a dying SATA controller, but thats really rare.

I'd say if you did not drop it or anything, maybe it was dropped in shipping/transit?

yeah it's from the HDD itself freezing, unusual spin up and down, clicking, lazy spin are the sign of faulty HDD

i guess better do backup than sorry then

whats the model of your drive btw, ata/sata/what else? buy unibersal conector, for pin replacement, is cheap but need a handyman to do so, dont tried yourself or you might add extra damaging

yeah, I hear a clicking sound as well. its not loud, but that exists for sure.
So it could be fine and then in the shipping got faulty?

it was sata . 500Gig WD blue cavier. the full model is visible in the snapshots above

i thing this will give you clue, if it doesnt work just replace whole connector board, you can find it mostly on electronic shop, and is cheap $1 below
found one, but for 2.5 portable, universal one, its an converter type tho, suport sata to micro b 2.5 only

How many hours? In all you screen shots you cover the important stuff up
The drive is within specs. Other drive diagnostics can report faults failures. Do a proper format and run it

it justy fails at the very beginning like in the first 10 seconds.
which important information do you need

That about 80% of its life. So have a few reallocated sectors is normal.
Have you installed on it or just testing it ?

I mean, bottom line, the drives old and already having issues. I would not use it for any further storage except maybe something totally disposable.

I've installed winxp and win7, and noticed the issues there when I tried to install a game. the first images which were taken from windows xp, was the first time i tried to see if the hdd was faulty!

That's what I was afraid of. I said I was going to try to refrain from discussing you system partitions. But here it is.
They're too small, I know people say it works but I would never install Windows on anything smaller then 100Gb but that's me.
With an old drive, relocated sector count that high. You're going to have issues. Especially on a dual boot.

So i think your drive is fine, just tired and too many partitions

FWIW, I've have no stories that involved cyclic redundancy check errors that ended well.
