need help on laptop software issue

im trying to help a friend out on his laptop he has xp pro tablet ed and proc is centrino 1.7 and 1 gig of ram.

here is the problem his task bar and icons disappear and reappear every 5 secs or so and sometimes they dont seem to show on his main desktop is there anyway of fixing this or do i have to do a full system restore. i already have dont a sys restore to an earlier time. and tried a spyware sweep and a virus scan but i think something else is going on.

its explorer.exe crashing most likely.

bad codec packs, dodgy antivirus, and a broken windows install are all common causes for it.

I know for a fact nod32 can cause that issue, if he has version 2.7 installed.

dude his pc is screwed he needs to reformat back to stock to get fix this. you cant even get anything to work. complete blank once you turn it on it loads logs in then just a blank screen nothing loads not even cntl alt delete works i had no unplug the battery just to turn it off. i have rebooted tryed to repair it with the restore disk to fix the errors part. with out reformat but still no luck i have to reformat and full reinstall back to stock. but ill do that later today its to late now.

well yeah, format it is then. I listed some common causes, but if its that bad then he might well need to format/replace some hardware.

naw his hardware is fine i have done this a few times to people i know but i just wasnt sure because i never worked on laptops. his pc is just over a year old
