650 Watt is more than enough for your mentioned setup. But if you are going to make use of SLI/dual GPU setup in the near future, then 750W would be better. Anyway, the Seasonic unit mentioned by TommyT is really good, better than the EVGA G1 650 (believe it makes use of a FSP Aurum OEM) and Corsair RM650 (CWT OEM).

just my 5 cents
got rm650 and not sure that i ever heard fan in it, also twice a month i clear dustfilters - PSU filter is clean from time i installed it
wanted silent PSU for 700-800W, but we got odd prices on seasonic(EVGA can be purchased, but it got no official warranty, chieftec got models only with passive cooling and it's realy expensive, xfx is just going on our market so not everywhere availible(and we got only 2 years of warranty on it), thats why i purchased corsair)
also, as i was searching for a good thing, i was surprised that rm750 and rm850 got very big % of failure - reviews that i was reading said that rm750 and rm850 got another platform/manufacturer(dont need rm1000, so i decided to take rm650 as stable with 7 years of warranty)
as i'm playing 1080p, got no problems with any game even with one 280x card(expt some AMD features like AC3 antialiasing should be offed if you dont want to be surprised)
it might look boring i have a clear window case i want something thats good and looks nice to show off lol
my rm650 is in bottom of case and it's upside-down orientation(so it's a bit funny and not "looks nice", cables are a bit tough(it's not so easy to operate with them), molex cables are veeeeery cheap(contacts are going left-right-up-down easily, it's hard to pin smthg in)

forgot about very important thing: it's longer(160mm) than a standard PSU(140mm)

So long as you are not planning to bios mod the 970, and are using ambient water or less on the cpu, 500w is plenty.

The seasonic listed is tier 1 and sub $100.

Correct, but if the OP in a future he will decide to make an SLI 500W won't be able to fill all the needs,

Regards,
Also correct, but he said he wasn't already. See post 19.

but if i decide to go with a GTX 980 the 650 watts will be enough, so just to be on the safe sine 650 watts will be good. the gpu is the last thing i'm getting so i can save up a little more for a good GPU but i be using my geforce 640 in my new build till i get the better gpu my budget now for the pc is $780

If you go with a 980, 500w will still be enough including overclocking...for your uses the 550w seasonic would be spot on.

When I reviewed a 980, when I pushed to the limits (cpu at 4.8gHz) of the gpu, I hit around 430w at the wall on peak. 90% efficient psu puts that right back into the below 400w actual.

Buying bigger doesn't hurt anything except your wallet. :)
