Need help understanding this.

Please explain to me how a VCR rewind function works.

Does it have a tension weight sensor as to not snap? Does it somehow keep "ticks" for the amount of times the spindle has spun and just go in reverse that number really fast?

I dont consider myself dumb by any means. but this has always fascinated me. I cant be the only one who has no idea how this works.

The tape is secured in the ring with a click trap. When motor feels resistance, it stops.

I know this cuz I dismantled few when I was a kid.

This ^^, i have all so noticed that some circuits are made when motor is being held it auto shuts off.

Yes motor shuts off the same way a flat bed scanner motor knows how to reverse when it gets to one side of the glass. Same concept. I took many apart growing up

id assume roughly how a garage door opener works. Although it can move with decent force ,it only requires the slightest resistance to stop it. As was said already iirc. This reminds me of an old Mitsubishi top load VCR I had. It had to be just shy of 10 inches tall, about 20 inches long, and about 18 inches deep. And weighed around 11 or so pounds. It sounded not much different than a electric Weedwhacker :laugh:
