I recently sold my laptop that had been acting up and decided I would try building a PC for the first time. This is something that I have been debating on for the past year and decided that with summer vacation here, I have the time. I only have around $1000 to spend, give or take $100, and I will be mainly using it for gaming.
The case I have already is:NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
MB: ASUS M4A79 Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard ($190)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor ($190)
Video: EVGA 896-P3-1257-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card ($185 after rebate)
Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory ($59)
Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply ($100 after rebate)
DVD Drive: LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X (CAV) DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD±R DVD Burner ($25)
The total so far comes to $798 before the rebates. Some questions I have:
1) For the hard drive, should I focus more on space or speed. I can get a 1.5TB 7200RPM for $130 or a 150GB 10,000RPM for $180. I am leaning more towards the 1.5TB, but I am unsure.
2) Is the stock cooler for the CPU good enough or should I invest in a better one?
3) This being my first build, is everything on my list compatible with each other? Also, is there anything I forgot to include that I might need?
Any comments would be helpful!
