Need HELP with a new GPU !!!

Hello all. I have a little problem to find the right GPU for my GF rig, because her old GPU (ASUS GTX 460) just stopped functioning and now i have to buy another GPU for her...
I have to choose between 2 videocards that are priced low (have a good price for me), and these 2 cards are:
1 - ATI Sapphire HD6870 1GB - 139 Euros (like 185 USD)
2 - nVidia PALIT GTX 560Ti Sonic 1Gb - 165 Euros (like 215 USD)

I am in a hurry to buy the GPU and i wait for your suggestions. Thanks a lot :toast:

The rest of my gf rig you can find in my PC specs...

unless she is big into 3d gaming, as in all the new games - i'd go with the 6870

+30$ for a 560 isn't bad, but if she won't use it it's a waste

Aye, depends on the resolution as well. I would buy the cheaper card and spends those bucks on beer.

Well the 560 is the faster card, but it's not a lot faster. I would not think it'd be worth another €30. But if you have the cash, go nuts.

The 560Ti Sonic is around 10% faster according to this review:

You can check all the review and see in different games how it stands against the 6870.
It's up to you.

The 5870 stock clocks is slower than the 560Ti sonic so it's useless to pay 15 euros more for a second hand card that performs less.

If you are certain the buyer is trusted by all means go for it.
I usually avoid second hand GPUs.
I just don't trust them.

Since your gf likes eye candy in her games, you will have to go for the better card you listed but if you are also looking for value then you may have to do more searching.

I would personally go for the nVidia card. Even if you feel she wont use it now, there is always the case of her wanting a future game to look good.

It would not die like that. It's made to play games, so obviously the cooler is suffiecient so it can function in a safe temperature range. It's probably something else, e.g a bad card.

Still have warranty on the GTX 460? was it enought for her that card? just RMA it and get it back, it's not that old card.. it's kinda maximum 1 year, it has been introduced on july 12th 2010...

Anyway, I would also go onto the GTX 560Ti, which is maybe a better choice than the HD6870 in term of performance.

I would strongly recommend the palit geforce, not only that it is a great card and it has physx,
but because it is palit, the best manufacturer i have seen so far. Even in reviews it shows that palit in a lot of cases is the best.
Search for the palit sonic platinum, better choice

I would go for the HD6870 simply because I don't the GTX 560 Ti is worth the extra 26 euros. The price gap is big for such a difference in performance. If you can find a cheaper 560 Ti then go for it.

I have a HD 6870 in my brand new core i5 system. It is not the fastest card that I could get (and I wanted a Radeon), but I find power consumption important too.

I haven't played many games yet ("Portal 2" runs fine - when I finally got it to install; darn Steam crap), but the 6870 definitely is better than the 6600GT (AGP) in my other Windows-based computer
