Need help with gaming build Intel or AMD?

Hey guys I need help picking parts for a gaming pc. Some of the uses will be playing games on high settings, watching movies, surfing the web and casual video editing. The CPUs I was looking at was the 3770k and the 8150. If someone could explain the advantages between the two that would be great. I'm trying to have this as a budget gaming build but at the same time have high performance.

As far as any other parts in the build if anyone could recommend motherboards and RAM


I'm also not planning on getting a video card at the moment I'm going to wait off on that.

First and foremost; How much is your budget?

and next you need to get a Video card. Intel Integrated graphics can only do so much for you.

Next is that get the Core i7 3770k (if your budget permits). it's a great investment.

other than that, I can't help you without knowing how much you're willing to spend :C

If you have a budget the AMD it´s way better.

The FX8120 cost´s half the price compare to the 3770k, use the extra cash @ a better GPU and you get a better performance compare to the 3770k and a inferior GPU.

That´s the AMD way.

I would go with the Intel they usually give more FPS.

Yeah if your on Budget go for the i5 3570/K

The i5 3570 would better on a budget for a gaming since there is next to no differnce with games and intel over amd makes a big differnce in emulators such as ps2 and gamecube

+1 for the i5 3570 if you dont OC and the "k" model if you plan on OC-ing. For now that is the best part to get for a budget gaming rig.

2500K/3750K is the ideal chip to get. I have seen some 2500K's around 150$ shipped on the FS section

My budget is around $900, so I'm trying to get the best possible build for gaming around that much, with out a video card for now

I would wait a while just to check what AMD is bringing in the next CPU soon the be released and then decide on what to acquire.

Course Id honestly look at a Phenom II X4 980 or X6 1100T

In the current market even tho the 2500k is a "old" processor i would choose it over any of those two in terms of performance. But in the end it all depends on what you want to do with them.

Right now, an Intel 2500K/2600K/3570K/3770K would be ideal. Sure, the FX-8150 is cheap, but it consumes more power (nearly twice as much as a 3570K!), is slower and programs/Windows can't even schedule the threads right on it much of the time. Hell, you needed a BIOS update just to use Steam. Before anyone calls me an Intel fanboy, I own both platforms along with many others as you can see from my forum signature.

Also, you CAN'T have an FX-8150 with integrated graphics unless you get an old budget motherboard (880G). Even then, the HD 4000 in the Intel 3xxx processors is superior compared to the HD 4250, and would probably get you by just fine for a while.

Im pretty happy with it, i bought it thinking long-term since i can OC it alot and it has a pretty good performance. Currently at 4Ghz on air but i can achieve 4.5Ghz if i ever decide to go watercooling.
Anyone wanting to purchase something worth the money should always look to buy items for long-term than short, it may look more expensive when you make the purchase but at long terms it is pretty worth/cheaper.

Exactly. My 2600K with an SSD has been the best system I have ever owned. I could have even kept the 6950 2GB for longer but I wanted a 7950 for better framerates on my 120Hz monitor.

I built a machine about a year ago for my bro and he is happy with it. There is 1 quirk with firefox and thats it

From research on the 8150 that appears to be the only one that actually has any affect on AMDs previous line but regardless I cant recommend a FX over a Phenom 2 for pricing purposes when people take 960Ts and run them high speed anyway.

Ivy Bridge is the Future and does just fine for everyone- If you really dont ever plan on overclocking you can always get a Non K Model to shave off some cash.

I don't want to wait for pile driver, I already waited long enough for ivy bridge and bulldozer to come out. Im leaning more towards getting an ivy bridge processor. It's for sure going to be either one of those for my new build.

I agree that you should build on a 3570k and go from there. That leaves lots of money to spend in a mobo, ram, and all the other parts you need. What else do you need to purchase?

Other parts I need are

Motherboard: Still deciding which one to get, looking for something high quality like Asus Sabertooth z77

RAM: Ripjaws or vengeance

Hard Drive: doesn't matter something reliable

SSD (maybe depends on price):something fast but a reasonable price

PSU: open to suggestions

CPU Cooler: open to suggestions


I just need the build to total around $900 or a bit more without a video card
