So what tools do i need to change settings and stuff?

Bad things and limits of ur Overclock is CPU heat (overheat it and it wont last that long, but burning ur CPU is very rare), stability ( U know ur gone too far when windows or the comp won't start; dont worry u can always reset to safe settings). Sum1 else can give u furher advice on Intel and ddr2 Oc, but basic things are raising ur FSB (wich determines ur clock speed), to the point the system becomes unstabile, and u have to go down abit. Remember to allways keep track of ur CPU temp and u should be fine.

HELLO beck92

I have a C2D E6600 and 2gb ddr2 just like you.

First tell me what motherboard you have and the ddr2 brand name and speed plus timing.
Second it is best to have a 2gb ddr2 800 (400mhz).(you can underclock you dram)
Third I would reconment to buy a after market CPU heatsink fan(Zalman is a good brand) and you must have lots of fresh air going into the case and have a good air flow e.g. a 120mm intake and a 120mm outtake.

OVERCLOCK:
1. Turn on your pc and hit "DELETE" to enter BIOS
2. Go to the section where do can change the fsb and voltage setting.
3. Change the fsb:dram ratio to DDR2 533 then incrase fsb from 266 to 350 mhz and disable spreatum. Leave everything on auto
4. Go to CPU feature and disable everything you see.
5. SAVE and EXIT.
6. While the pc restarts itself press enter again and then go to hardware monitor to see your cpu temperature wait there for a minute the temperature wouldnt go over 45*C(room temperature 30*C)
7. If everything is ok continu on into WINDOWS open up CPUZ and CORE TEMP and ORTHOS. Run ORTHOS for 30minutes and watch out for the cpu temperature.
8. If no erro were found by ORTHOS increase the fsb by 5~10 mhz and test stableness

right now the temperature is:
Core #0: 22C*
Core #1: 24C*

I aint running any games right now. Does core temp increase when playing games?
BTW.Caveman do u got msn? would really like to ask some questions

hu?
"...The temperature monitor is either faulty or the BTX cooling rocks."

He says that because you processor temps are quite low. Considering you have a dell, and thus the standard CPU Heatsink +fan.

he means that your temp readings are quite low, even for idle... so either yout btx style cooling works out great or the temp sensor is off...

you could use an external thermal probe or an infrared thermometer...

thermal probe? wtf is that? isnt there just any software that can see if the temp cencor is on or off.
BTW THE TEMPERATURES SHIFT ALL THE TIME.. FROM 22 TO 23 FROM 24 TO 25 DOES THAT MEAN THAT IT ACTUALLY WORKS ?

thx a lot i just saw in temp log that temperature has been up to 28 one time, does this mean (as i asked before) that the temperatures are accurate? i mean if sensor was off why would it show different temps all the time?
