First off welcome, please use the edit option so you don't double post. Also its helpful to fill out your system spec under you profile if you wan t a complete answer.

The GTX 1060 is a great card whether or not you get a consistent 60 frames would depend on the rest of your system but you should be good

Hi james, don't double post , edit your previous one XD.
About the topic, the gtx 1060 is great for 1080p but if you can get a rx480 for lower or same price go with that instead and you get 8gbs.
How much watt does it have your psu?

Welcome to TPU!

Well, it depends on what you mainly use your computer for.
Especially if for gaming, it helps to tell us which type of games you like to play.

Also please fill in your system specs because it will help others when giving you advice on what to upgrade.

i dont know how to find out the specs for computer :(

Why bother spending so much time choosing the card then? :)
They're both pretty great. They'll both run all games available today at very decent settings, unless you're hoping to use very high resolution. Neither will let you down in 1080p.
1060 is slightly faster and slightly more expensive. If you can afford it, take it and have fun.

The software optimization you're talking about gives little actual advantage. Forget about it. :)

Hahaha, not thinking this cause I know this for a fact. After upgrading from my Gigabyte GTX 960 4GB to ASUS's Strix GTX 1060 6GB, it's not a "little" better. I'm doubling if not nearly tripling my FPS in games at Max settings. Don't listen to those guys who say its a great card for just 1080, it excels in 1080 gaming. You're better off playing at 1440p on high settings or using NVidia's DSR if you don't have a monitor to spec.

so its worth the 250 bucks right 2gb in vram is not enough and the 1060 6gb could be good for 4 years at 1080 gaming or u might not have to upgrade either right

$250.00, shoot I'm not even going to tell you how much I paid for my card on day one. Trust me, its worth it. The RX 480 and the GTX 1060 are both really good cards that go back and forth, trading blows in benchmarks. One barley beating the other, except when it comes to certain DX12 titles. If you plan on playing a lot of games that feature DX12 such as doom, get a RX 480. Other than that, its solely up to you. There is no right or wrong choice between these two cards. Were just providing opinions but the benchmarks don't lie (most don't anyways).

1060 6 GB is a great card, and far better than 960. You can compare 1060 to 980 (I have both cards, performance for me in the games I play is quite similar between 980 and 1060).

If you're worried about it not lasting long enough, I think you should save up for a GTX 1070 or hold onto that 960 a little bit longer and wait for VEGA.

for a little while. Next console generation is when we should see the next big shift in needed graphics performance, and since I do not know when that will be (some time, since the refreshed consoles are out now). As mentioned just above, 1070 is the long-term solution, that is currently also great for 1440p. Graphics today is now about 4K and VR on the high-end, mid-grade performance these days is 1080p.

My personally system has dual GTX1070, but I often only use one card, playing on 2560x1600 monitor. 1070 is not quite fast enough for 2560x1600, at times, but 1440p is OK.

I know that not all games support SLI but dual GTX 1070's run games in 4K just fine. Why are disabling one?

In any case, if you're still getting a GTX 1060, I wouldn't recommend the Palit Jetstream version. I'm currently using it and I wish I bought a different card. It's probably not the worst, but there are other better cards available (for example: the MSI Gaming you linked in the OP is a good one).
