Need some ideas for a build.

Im build just a "cheap little computer" for a friend. She does not need anything special and onboard video is fine. This is just for pictures, email, web browsing. And only needs to run xp. So shoot me some ideas, I have only built with 775 socket and up and would like to keep it that way. TY.

AMD 780G or 785G, 2GB DDR2 and use the onboard features.

for non gaming, any AM2 or AM3 chip will do the trick. (see my media PC in sig specs)

go for a Semprin 140 for only $40

You might be able to unlock it to a dual core !

I would say

Athlon II 240
785G mobo
4GB DDR2 (she dont need DDR3 and DDR2 is dirt cheap so might as well grab 4gb)

And then anything else. The built in video will be plenty enough, and going with the 240 for a bit more for 2 cores I feel is worth the extra over the 140, unlocking might not work. And the fact that you won't be there, so if she has some issue and somehow bios is cleared, then core will be gone again.

i can vouch for that setup. its rather powerful for anything that isnt gaming (and thats just the GPU holding it back)
