Hey boys, long time no post haha, this is my first time popping up in months and months, namely becuase I moved to paris and I rarely game nowadays but I happened to be gaming tonight (got me some farcry 3 action) and my faithful GTX570 blew out, smoke and all, seems to be on the GPU side of the board opposite the chil voltage regulator... I guess it didn't like my overclock after all.

My system specs are exactly as they read still, the rig hasn't changed in around a year becuase for the first time in years I was so happy with it nothing needed upgrading,, well this has forced my hand and I'd like to stick with Nvidia but not gigabyte anymore.. not after this.

I used to swear by the winforce ultra durable cards until now..

So I need some reccomendations of a replacement, and if I have to spend hundreds to replace it anyway I'd rather upgrade instead of sidegrade so I need some input.

is the 660Ti a worthy upgrade?
I really liked the look of the Asus GTX670 TOP when it came out, seems like a cool running card with GTX680 odd performance,,
or is it worth the extra coin for a reference GTX680?

two slot maximum because of the Mini ITX case.. k go and thanks in advance trusty TPU!

Cant you RMA your 570?,the 670 seems to be the best option if you can afford it.

The Enrichment Center for Aperture Laboratories has moved?

The Asus 670 DCU II would be a good choice. I personally think the 680 is still too expensive for what it offers over the 670.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
To me, with AMD's pricing, there isnt much reason to go Nvidia these days unless its a strong preference. A worthwhile upgrade on that side of the house would be a 7950 (7870 is about equal to a 580 - so no point IMO). 680 is as fast as a 7970 and $100 more... does that sound worth it? What about the 7950 which competes with a 670... also for $100 more... Your wallet would do you well with considering AMD. :)

The GTX 680 and 670 do have an edge over the 7970 and 7950.
It is a matter of if the price is worth it.

The 7950 is still quite a bit behind the 670 in performance even with 12.11 betas.
Edited... but yeah up to the OP on those cards.

The price is still considerably higher in Nvidia land sadly... not close to the performance % it holds.

I do have a strong preference for Nvidia generally, it comes down to the driver suite and sticking with products that I like and know.

the GTX570 is more than a year old so no chance on an RMA cos it's out of warranty..

I'm leaning towards a 670 becuase I don't think for around 250-280 euro a 660Ti will give me as much value as 100 Euro more for a 670...

Thats a shame really. I do prefer Nvidia for the same reasons you do, but guess who is selling a GTX680 and moving to a 7970 after the 12.11 drivers... :rockout: (ok truth be told BOTH are FS, and whichever sells first I keep the other, LOL!)

I have had no problems with the 12.11 drivers across 7850's (one and CFX) and 7970's (one an CFX).

EDIT: 950 core is NOTHING... If your card doesnt run 24/7 at 1100Mhz with meager voltage adds, then its a dud. :)

The 670 is the perfect balance in performance and price between the 660Ti and the 680 and a good upgrade over the 570.

Because that is a stock clocked 7950,these cards OC like HELL mine can OC to 950mhz from 800 with an undervolted core.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_7950_X2_Boost/31.html

EDIT:dosent that card come with a 3 year warranty?
The GTX 670 can OC as well, and there is no guarantee that a card will clock well.

The 670 is the perfect balance in performance and price between the 660Ti and the 680 and a good upgrade over the 570.
Best card in the GTX600 series in my opinion.

I know its nothing but i have the most el-cheapo version of a 7950 and it does 950 with the core under-volted,not at stock voltage.

heres the card: http://www.techpowerup.com/159632/S...-Design-Sapphire-Radeon-HD-7950-Pictured.html

Great. Just saying that is nothing (without offense to you of course), and these cards have WAY more in them.

The GTX 670 can OC as well
Too bad you cant touch the voltage past 1.17, and it auto adjusts anyway. As much as I like Nvidia, they really neutered their overclocking on Kepler an dumbed it down a ton.

OP - If you have to go Nvidia and waste $100 for the same performance, I would go 670 as well. :)

Quite a decent sample that W1z got as well.

Anyways, one thing to consider for the 7950/70 is that they come with 3GB vram (and a wider 384-bit bus) by default, which is a bonus.
For the 670/680 you might want to get the 4GB version if you plan to keep the card for a while.
You don't need the extra vram right now, but it doesn't come at a premium for the 7900s.

In the end you really cant go wrong with either the 7950 or the 670.

If you decide to switch to AMD (it's not my cup of tea either) I'd check out the 7970 over the 7950. It might come at almost the same price as the 670 and it is a superior card.

If he is considering paying the huge premium for that, I would really take a close look at AMD...

well it looks like a dead heat cost wise for me between reference and non reference cards from both camps for a GTX670 or a 7970.. state your case people haha

Not that this is a factor, but AMD's GPUs handle compute a bit better than nVidia's current lineup if that matters at all to you. If you're going to only be gaming, not touching linux, and not donig any GPGPU, the 670 is most likely a better option. On the other hand if you want to overclock a lot, have more control over the GPU, and do the things I had mentioned before, I would consider AMD a bit more.

With all of this said, both AMD and nVidia makes a good graphics card and I don't think you will be disappointed either way you go. AMD does seem to have better cost effectiveness versus nVidia and I haven't had an AMD driver issue for a long time.

Since you overclock you cards. It is a plus that the 7970 and the Ghz edition are essentially the same thing.
In fact there is a bios upgrade that can turn reference 7970s to Ghz editions complete with the boost feature.

When all else fails you can always do it the old fashion way.
I believe that reference GTX670s are voltage locked?
