I'm going to start my career (I hope) soon, and I sure as hell will need a Laptop; some universities here demand every student to have one. In my case, I want to bring a netbook instead.

Looking through some stores, I found only one Fusion powered netbook: The Acer Aspire One AO522-BZ465. It suits my needs, and the price is OK, but I'd want to have more options before buying it. Does anyone know when will stores have a larger variety of this APU netbooks? Or if I'd be better with a Fusion notebook? I'm not gonna buy anything until June or July, maybe I'll wait for the 4th of July bargains and get me something.

So:

1.- When will more Fusion netbooks start showing up at stores?
2.- Is a notebook a better choice?

Thanks in advance for those who answer. \m/

it just launched but there will a time before the stuff easy to get in any market
.
it depends on what you need, if just about basic needs like typing, multimedia things, browsing and limited multi tasking you could take netbook
but above that its better you take laptop

I've read positive things about the HP Pavilion dm1z and the Lenovo x120e, both of which are 11.6". I know MSI has a 13" (the MSI X370). So far the 10.1" selection has been small, if you mean to say that that's a necessity.

I think a fusion netbook is ideal for your purposes. Most of the time you will be websurfing, emailing and word processing and it will do those things absolutely fine.

Make sure you get one with a good battery life, and I suggest getting a SSD because.. well... I think they kick arse. That Lenovo one that Suhidu linked you to looks excellent.

And, if you get bored during lectures, your fusion netbook will be great for watching movies compared to other netbooks.

As for why they are not getting to market, perhaps its a peculiarity in your country? I have seen plenty of models in the shops here.

Just from experience, I would avoid a 10.1" screen if you plan on using this netbook for real school work. That small a screen is a real pain to do large amounts of work on, especially typing papers. I'd go with a 13" screen with at least a 1366x768 resolution.

Yes, I also thought that a netbook is good enough for me. I will get an SSD, but no until the price for a 120-160GB is around $100. That would be the upgrade of decade for me. Yes, that's why I want the Fusion APU, because of the wider multimedia capabilities. And no, I looked at some major stores in the US and found very little. The last thing I'd do is buy PC hardware in here, everything is twice the US price, and stores have no problem in ripping off customers, and I mean illegally. Thank you for your answer.

I have worked on a 10" screen before and I haven't found it unpleasant. I'm prioritizing price and performance over screen size, since the latter doesn't matter to me. Thank you for answering too.

I'm just typing on a 8,9 inch screen and it's perfectly fine. So far i've only seen 1 netbook that was using AMD C-50. But these have 1GHz CPU which is not really much faster than 1,6GHz Atoms. I was expecting these Fusion cores to be at around 1,5GHz at least...
Thugh at least graphics are better than Intel crapness. E-350 will be significantly better but it's also much more expensive and i don't think we'll see many of these in netbooks.

I think we'll have to wait another month or two for AMD Fusion goods to properly spread around.
Hell, even ACER Aspire One 522 which was announced and released ages ago is still nowhere to be seen in my country.

i too have a small netbook (9" i think) and find it fine.

no one gets a netbook expecting to touch type or write essays. its for portability, light web browsing, quick note taking and basic multimedia playback.

I think fusions adoption is a little slow because while they are more powerful than the atom variants by a fair margin, the power consumption goes up too. that makes their pricing not so competitive, so they're not being released that fast until companies are sure its worth it (or they can figure out how to pack a slightly bigger battery in)

I see people doing it all the time, when you are buying it for school like the OP, that is what you use it for.

For school purposes, a notebook with a 13"+ screen is a much better investment.

I'm doing everything that i do on my PC, also on netbook. And apart from performance limitations in 3D and some apps that strictly require at least 768 pixels in height, everything can be done on it really.

maybe if you can stretch a little more you can get an M11X R1 for a similar price, and you will find it much better equipped

I have had a DM1Z with an E-350 in it for about three months, does everything I need it to for school. It is a full size keyboard making it quite easy to adjust to. Video performance is pretty good it won't play modern games at any reasonable FPS but it is a great little laptop. Battery life when browsing and non intensive activities is up towards 7-8 hours, continuous 720p video playback last a touch over 4 hours. Mine is running a 64 gig Super Talent SSD and feels quite snappy in everything it does.
