NEVER buy visiontek if your an Enthusiast/Overclocker.

I put on an aftermarket cooler "which I thought does not void any warranty" and now they are refusing to RMA my card because of it.. I'm not dumb and I dam well know how to put on a simple air cooler.. Come on, I build computers FFS.. All I know is I will never deal with Visiontek again.. They made my experience with them, just as bad as it could of possibly been.
That POS card only lasted me like a year.. :banghead:

EDIT: Visionteks warranty states anything you do will void the warranty, even overclocking..
Enthusiasts might consider choosing a company, more willing to be enthusiastic..

Doesn't say anything about their RMA guidlines, that's what I'm having an issue with..
Nothing to do with how great some of their cards might be..

Most of the time removing the cooler does void the warranty. Did you check the fine print? Only a few companies allow the cooler to be removed i.e XFX and EVGA

Nope. I had a Visiontek 4850, 4870 and a 5850. Great company. The fact you removed the cooler is where you went wrong.

No ones (at least not me) is trying to troll you. That is my personal experience with Visiontek, i have not dealt with their customer support or RMA process but the product i had from them (an HD 4870) was solid till i gave it away.

I also have no personal issues with you, maybe some arguments a few years back or something but otherwise.

"which does not void any warranty"

I'm curious where you read that... if anything, never tell them you swapped coolers when requesting an RMA. Put the old one back on first.

I did actually.. I told them I had another cooler on it though..
I guess I just got use to buying from companies that didn't void your warranty at every turn.
I'll make sure I check the fine print from now on.
They say anythign that alters performance may void warranty. They don't specify after market cooling..
I "guess" that falls under the "anything" category..
I mean anythign they decide falls under the anything category does I guess.
Don't laugh at your gpu too hard, might void the warranty..

You can't even OC a visiontek card.
it will void the warranty..lol..
Ugh, why'd I buy them in the first place.. ><
Let's make enthusiast cards but tell the enthusiasts they can't do anything to them..
That puts you in a sub-enthusiast market and therefore out of mine as far as I'm concerned..

My appologies if I misinterpreted any posts as trolling.. I'm down 300 bucks on a card that died within like a year.. I R not happy..

Most companies don't warranty modifications. Changing coolers is a modification.

As for overclocking, yeah most companies don't warranty that either. The specifications that are listed are all that is ever guaranteed to work.

Amd actually have a bit of hardware in there CPUS to tell if something has been overclocked, if you havn't gone crazy AMD will still sort things out for you, but if your voltage has been set over the maximum they rate the cpu for then BAM no more warranty.

In the UK NONE of the companies let you change coolers.

For future reference just act like you never changed anything at all!

And yeah, Visiontek seem to be no better/worse than the other budget companies.

Get Asus or XFX if you want hassle free warranty.

Asus? You have to RMA the same card THREE times before they replace it with a REFURBISHED card.

XFX is hassle free? Ask Cadaveca how many 5xxx series cards he had to return. Sure they are hassle free but they better be for the amount of returns you will have to do to get a working card.

Honestly all GPU's are luck of the draw. I like HIS and Visiontek yet some people have the worst luck with them. Luck of the draw I say.

I wouldn't be happy if this were me. I never bought from them since I have bought only EVGA which doesn't category what you do. Now I have a gigabyte one, I got to read the warranty just to see what I can and cannot do

I had a pretty big issue with ASUS on one board.. They said I had messed up the pins on a mobo but I had taken a pic of the pins dated and time stamped, the day i sent it to them, just in case, as I had the same issue before.. They tried to deny my RMA stating damaged pins. "As they had done to me before"
I sent them the pic and told them they were full of shit and they needed to rma my mobo.. They RMAd my mobo.. That's pretty shady indeed..

XFX I have never used.. All I know is I need to buy from a company that caters to enthusiasts, that's jusy my cup-o-tea. If I had known the warranty would of been voided, I just wouldn't of bought the product..
I always aftermarket cool, you have to now a days almost..
My new 680 hits freaking 80c if I don't.. :shadedshu
So the lesson I learned today was "buy from people who suit my needs".
Doesn't apply to everyone, but it applies to me..

A few RMAS does not = really bad luck..
That's just how it is in tech, you know that.. Or I thought you did..

Understandably, given they don't have your back. I'm not a fan of Seagate after two drives in a Dell RAID array failed at the same time. Was within 2.5 yrs and retail Seagate drives would have been covered, but these were labeled as "OEM", so they wouldn't cover them, only Dell, and that warantee was up. Corksuckers.

By the way, what exactly happened to the card? What cooler did you put on it and was it working for a while before it failed?

Protip : He never said changing the the heat-sink is what broke the card, it likely broke after changing coolers ( he's had the GPU a year)

Now as much as I love a-trollin' there's a few people here who are purposefully being annoying and difficult. Just stop.

( For once, not you mailman! You're being very well behaved lol)

Regarding Asus and XFX they both upgraded my cards after RMA so they are in my good books.

They are and it's about to come to a boiling point..
Ty..

I put the new cooler on in the first week of ownership. I have always done that to all my cards and I have NEVER broken one..
It was massive GPU artifacting.. The gpu failed and the temps were not an issue. I dropped 10c using that cooler..
It was a large, copper cooling block. Can't find it in my newegg list. guess I bought it somewhere else.. idk..

Did you track the VRM temps? GPU aint the only thing that needs to be cooled ya know.

Hardly, I value TPU's opinions more so than any other site I frequent..
I treat this place like my second home, so when I'm attacked in my second home, I get more upset then usual, my appologies in that regard..

Thankfully TPU offers an easy solution to obvious trolls.. Ignore..
Thank you all for the input, yea I messed up buying from them and not looking at their warranty guidlines. Totally my bad..
Like I said, I should of stayed with a company that suited my needs.
My own fault..

With an open case, 4 fans blowing directly on the gpu at extremly close range and the aftermarket cooler, I thought I was thorough..lol..
By all means, please do recommend a good monitoring software..
I cleaned off the old paste and put ac5 on it as well.
That crap was caked on and flaking, terrible job on that..
