New 24/7 Acceptable? Or move to i7?

Thats my new 24/7 Overclock, everything crisp, stable.

Just finished a 6 hour session of call of duty: black ops.

My question is should I stick to my q9550 quad core, Or move up to a i7 for great efficiency and maybe future proofing in games? Or stick with my current platform and Overclock.

I would say just stick with it to see what Intel is bringing out next year, your Q9550 is
pretty good, but unless the new intel chip is anything worth looking at next year, then
just wait.

Sounds good, I dont want to blast another $500 on a i7 platform still, Just some users report feeling great performance boost even moving from high end quad cores overclocked.

I did the switch: From a x3220 @ 3.6 to an i7 920 @ 4100. I can assure you that you feel the enhancement, yes, but mot that much, And i can assure you that if it wasn't for the folding ppd difference, i'd be feeling sad, because it cost A LOT to made the cpu/mobo/ram upgrade. while in most of the games i've tried, you barely see the difference, with a noticeable exception in the loading times.

I think staying with what you have right now, which is nothing to spit at imo, is the best $$$/performance action at the moment. Just my 2 cents.

exactly minimal gaming boosts are not worth the trouble and £££/$$$

I moved from a q6600 (now my server cpu) to a q9550 (now in my spare gaming rig) to an i7 920.

The i7 definitely wins for my handbrake sessions. But for general system use and gaming I actually noticed a bigger bump in performance going from the 6600 to the 9550 then I did when moving from the 9550 to the i7. I'd stick with what you have if you're happy with it.

One of the main reasons I switched to an i7 is for crunching

If you are not a cruncher nor doing a lot of video encoding I would stick with what you have...

Sometimes I feel the urge to fold for 50711

Other thoughts I have about the i7 is the performancing when it comes to video encoding and stuff like that.

Should I wait for the sandy bridge and i7 2000 series?

you can wait at least till Jan-Feb... Then you can think of upgrading
