New 5600 XT GPU failing

I've just built my first PC (technically my housemate put it together) and it's started crashing constantly when I try to play high-end games such as Warzone. I have:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-Core Socket AM4 3.4GHz
Power Supply: Thermaltake 550W Smart BX1 80 Plus Bronze Non-Modular
Storage: Crucial BX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M-H AM4 mATX
RAM: Thermaltake 16GB (2x8GB) R021D408GX2-3200C16D H-ONE 3200MHz DDR4
GPU: Asrock Radeon RX 5600 XT Challenger D 6G OC
OS: Windows 10 Home, v 2004, Build 19041.508

It works fine for less intensive things like Runescape + watching Twitch (although it did crash once doing this), it handled me running Furmark for 15mins. When I go to launch games like Warzone it crashes at various stages, loading into the menu, in the game, anywhere and inconsistently. Interestingly, when I was using Adrenalin v 20.5.1 I could get warzone to run inconsistently, Division 2 would crash pretty much straight away, and Bullets Per Minute would crash loading the first level. Now running v 20.8.3 Warzone always crashes, BPM returns that Unreal Engine 4 has crashed, and Division 2 seems to be running for the moment.

When it crashes, it displays a green screen for a few seconds 90% of the time, and then fails to detect input to the monitor but does not shut off the PC. After trying to reinstall the chipset drivers I had a different graphic error on screen, but that was only during the restart.

My housemate has an almost identical PC, only difference is that his 5600 is made by Gigabyte and mine by ASRock, and as soon as we tried switching our GPUs, his had the same green screen crash immediately and mine seemed to be working.

I've tried uninstalling all of the AMD drivers and reinstalling, still crashing.

Suggestions? I'm in the process of contacting the store I bought it from for a replacement.

Check that the memory is on the board manufacturers QVL list. I built a 2600 machine and had the same issues. Went through two different ram kits before paying more for one off the QVL list and that solved the problem. 2nd gen ryzens are pretty fussy with what memory they run with

Definitely sounds like your card is defective, based on the troubleshooting you've done.

I believe I have L08 as I remember that menu, although at this point I've seen so many pages and done a bunch of reinstalls so I'm losing track of things... :(

Unfortunately a lot of first revision 5600 bios had issues and some of the 14gbps ones, so you may find one of those 2 more stable

Post a gpuz screenshot

I've believe I've downloaded and likely reinstalled BIOS F2, Realtek Audio Driver, Radeon 20.8.3, Ryzen Master 2.3.0.1591, Chipset Driver 1‎9.10.16 currently

F2? That sounds like your motherboard bios not the gpu

Save your current vbios before you attempt to do anything

Also try the previous whql drivers I believe they were 20.4 something as they worked well for me, maybe do a clean install of both chipset and gpu drivers, uninstall gpu, uninstall chipset, install chipset, install gpu.

You've already verified it with your mates rig - RMA the GPU, don't bother with flashing or anything.

I installed the F2 mobo bios, and the L08 GPU vbios, still get crashes with Warzone (and other things I assume). I've done clean installs of the chipset and gpu drivers before, I'll try with the older version one more time.

I put the parts into PC builder again and it didn't show any issues with compatability.

I've also contacted the store for a replacement, I'm just trying to find a fix in the meantime

Did you back up the original bios, if so like you said try the other one on the asrock site and if no joy then you've done everything you could before returning it and just return it for a different one, just means you'll have a bit of downtime unless you have a spare gpu lying around though better that than a GPU that doesn't function correctly, that said is it just on warzone you get crashes nothing else?

I didn't back-up, I'll look up how to safely install the previous L07 v and give it one last try. No spare GPU unfortunately, like I said it's my first PC build.

Currently only Warzone is crashing, however before I installed a different version of one of the drivers (don't remember which) Warzone wasn't (always) crashing while other games were, plus I've verified the Warzone files, so I don't think it's a game specific issue.

Warzone is known to have issues with crashing certain configurations, is your cpu overclocked? If so run it at stock settings, same goes for your ram or just to be safe run it at default 2133mhz with everything else default and see if you still get crashes in warzone

I haven't touched overclocking, I'll try that suggestion after too. The PC just crashed while downloading Unreal Engine and playing Runescape simultaneously, sometimes even that's enough to crash it :(

Always the same green then blank screen and needs a forced restart? Do you get a radeon error message when you restart after the crash, have a look on your event viewer also to see if there's any errors at the time of the crash

Yeah, sometimes there was no green screen but it's always there. Radeon says it's resetting the settings because of an error on restart every time.

@FatherMartin let me be completely specific: don't bother trying anything further, you might end up bricking the card. Everything you've done and shown indicates it's faulty. RMA it and let it be the supplier's problem.

@xman2007 while I appreciate you are trying to help, everything points to the card being the problem. Telling OP to try a billion things is unlikely to work, and since it's in warranty there really isn't any benefit in doing anything except RMA'ing it.

A billion things? So you don't bother with simple things like clean driver installs and reseting your OC when you've got a similar issue? That and looking in event viewer is not a billion things... And the bios are available on asrock site there's no reason not to try them, he has started the returns process so what's the problem just being sure it is defective before waiting for rma that's why he came here, but I guess you knew that from the get go

I'm pretty sure the GPU is faulty and I'm going to be shipping it back tomorrow but interestingly tonight something new happened. Just sitting in The Division 2 for a while waiting for my friend to log in with Discord open when the screen loses signal but the sound remains, when it comes back it's tabbed to Discord on the desktop and says 'new device found AMD HD Audio Device, do you want to switch?'. So i disabled this driver in Device Manager, but then even with it disabled this happened once again, discord detecting it again as if it's new. Very strange...

And then I uninstalled it and my pc green screen crashed almost immediately. When I turned the PC on again the driver had somehow reappeared once again installed in device managed enabled again? What is this...

Just tried restarting after uninstalling after crashing and it also reinstalled itself after doing that.
