hello

im planing to build my own computer, but im kinda unknown with what hardware that fits together and all that...
i have some (maybe stupid)questions but i hope you would like to answer :p...

first of all i'll tell a bit about my needs :p
im going to use my computer for gaming. therefore i need a fair grafich card, im going to have some LED's and cathodes, don't believe that they uses alot of power :S... i need 2 hard drives, dvd-drive, ram and a few fans... don't know if there is anything else that would be important to know :p

Motherboard:
omg im really lost here... first of all i need to have a motherboard with enough slots for all my stof... then i need to think of upgrades, and CPU!!................. :O..
- what do I need to look at when I look for the motherboard?

psu:
- how to tell what psu's which fits into which cabinets?
- do i need more then 550W?

grapich cards:
- i've been recommended geforce 8800 series.. is that ok? or some crappy shit?

general:
- some guy told me that i had to look at some weird number (don't remember the name), which all hardware haves... this number should fit to all the other hardware i would like to have in my computer.. something with how it works together... what is that all about? :O ...

thinks that's it...

hope I'm not to much of a noob :p..

and sorry for my english :p...

if you have any links that you think would be usefull for me.. plz dont hessitate.. i would love to check it...

Whats your budget? And where do you live US UK Canada etc....
To answer your questions:
Motherboard:
The important stuffs for gaming is mostly the northbridge chipset. USually the best chipsets for gaming/overclocking are X38 and P35. And the northbridge has to have a "BIG" diameter so it could fit the CPU fan.
Power Supply:
You need 500 + watts depending on what you buy and its not just wattages its also amperage pin connectors.....
graphics card:
the 8800 series are fine but if you have less money to spend switch the ATI.

That will get you a rather high-end PC, I'm jealous already. Harder part will be finding online retailers that deliver to you... I'll leave this one for the Euro members methinks :)

Bignokki if it helps any I have heard of people running 9600GT's in SLi on the power supply I own. I will have to leave the online shopping to UKer's,as I am not too familiar with the good shops over there.

accually I don't know any brands like that.. i have only been to sites who buy the hardware from the producers/manufactures, and then sells them...

but i tell you you have been a great help allrdy :D ... before it was like i had nothing to work with... now i have some of each..
but still.. how do i know what CPU to chose? (i'm pretty sure that i'll buy Asus P5K-E)

in reply to bignokki (i recieved an email that he has posted but it wont show up on here =S) anywho, here we go friend: [mod edit - that's because I asked him to start a new thread. I've moved this post now :)]

Id love to answer your questions, thats what im here for ;)

Basically, to get a cmputer running, you need:

A powersupply

A Case (keeps everything protected+cooled)

RAM (random access memory(this is what programs use to be displayed etc))

A motherboard, to install everything to

A CPU or processor as its formally known. this is basically the brains of a computer, doing all the calculations to make it work.

A Harddrive - this is the memory of your computer, holds all your information and programs, etc.

Not neccessary, but a graphics card if your going to be gaming. you questioned about 8 series cards? Brilliant. not the newest anymore, die to the edition of the early 9 series, however you can pick up an 8800GT, that blows most cards out of the water, for around £120.

A CD Drive - youll be needing this to install your Operating System from disc, to listen to music, to install other programs, etc.

An operating system, such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Ubuntu Linux, etc.

a sound card (optional, if your motherboard has it, no need unless you want 5:1 or 7:1 surround)

so those are all the components of a pc, and 90% of the list are nescessities.

If your going to be installing LED's, cathodes and such, you may need a more powerful powersupply if your running a 8 series card too - im personally running an antec 900 case (4 fans, 3 with LED's), an 8800GT TOP edition with a 700W PSU that set me back £35 - not a glitch so far.

youve said abit about someonesaying you need to look at numbers or something, the only thing i can think of is that with a motherboard, you need an appropriate processor for the socket on the motherboard - for example, my mobo (motherboard ;)) is an AMD AM2 socket type. so i have an AMD athlon 5000+ black edition installed. see how they match? you get intel motherboards that use numbers, but i have no knowledge in this area, im an AMD fanboy :D

thats all i can think of to respond too, i guess if you want some help building a PC, as ion picking parts, email me with your budget and interests and ill help you out. :)

P5K-E is like the top dog of overclocking. But I rather you spend less on ram and upgrade the cpu. Like I said G.Skill 2 x 1 GB DDR2 800 is way cheaper and spend just a little more on the CPU. Get a Core 2 Duo E6750 instead. I would give it a 9/10. And a quick note Asus "NEVER" compares to graphics brands like eVGA or XFX. I rather you buy an eVGA 8800 GT instead.

i've found another gfx-card: http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr88512gtoce.aspx it's from BFG (as you might see :p)... and it's still geforce 8800gt...
and i've also found a new processer: Intel - Core 2 Duo (Conroe) Model E6850 (3.0GHz)
and by getting it all from the same place.. i'll save some on shipping :D
but i still have the same RAM as far as i see these i have are cheaper ;)
