On CeBIT ATI said, that new cards are coming ...

They will be named Fudo (R520) -> 'new' X700 -> ~200 $!!!
-> 90 nm technology
-> Shader model 3.0 (finally!!!)

Now ... I think that GF 6600GT is loosing :D

One more thing:

Nvidia has SLI ... ATI has VPU
On CeBIT they tested two X850 XT PE (R480) & they were (of course) faster than two 6800 Ultra!

ati didnt say such a thing at cebit .. this is all pure speculation or made up

all ati had to say at cebit was to present their intel mobo chipset

we will see r520 around june for a VERY high price .. 256 and 512 mb configuration ..

well i just saw this stuff on one of the 'news' webpages in Slovenia - i didn't look notihng more than ... but now i did; there is a lot of stuff written about this R520 (mostly on forums) - but I'm not sure about the name (Fudo) anymore ... well, will should see really soon (Q2 2005)

the name fudo is correct for r520

what i'm saying is that ati did not say anything official about r520 at cebit ..

but from my information it should be out in june/july

no no no - 6600GT is much better than X700 (pro) ... has better GPU and Memory Clock (+ cca. 50 MHz)
+ it also has ShaderModel 3.0

& because X700 isn't good enough, Fudo is coming :p

The X700 is a fantastic card. I got mine up to 9300 on 3D03 and there are others who break 10k. The amazing part of this is that it was on stock volts, which are extremely limiting. I myself am able to overclock by almost a full 25% which blows the 6600GT away in many respects. Both are good cards, but the X700 is no slouch especially with 256mb VS. 128.

Nobody here can tell you that for certain but it is likely that the R520 will have 24 pipes since its suppost to have 300-350 million transistors.

And as far as AMR goes, ATI has never shown two X850XT PE's beating 2 6800 Ultra's in SLI. AMR has been around for about 3 years already and it was used in flight simulators. It was OpenGL only though. There are alot of questions about whether it will actually work or not because of the excessive bandwidth required.

I saw an article today that shows nVidia is working to make it possible to use more then just two cards in SLI. A good example would be two dual GPU 6800 Ultra's in SLI for the effective performance of 4 6800 Ultra's.

nVidia's G70/G80 cores should also be out around September or sooner.

Just look at it this way, NVIDIA is also releasing a new core with 24 Parallel Rendering Pipelines along with there current Marchitecture, but with higher speeds all built on 90nm process.

ATI on the other hand is actually coming out with a completely new core design called R520 & R580. The R520 is the same Graphic’s which is going to be used in the XBOX 2.

This is what I have learned from doing a little research. ATI’s highest of highest will be called the ATI Radeon X980XT PE.

ATI Radeon X980XT PE (R580 Core) (90nm)
512MB GDDR4
256-Bit or 512-Bit Memory Interface
24 Pixel Pipelines
8 Vertex Engines
3Dc Technology
PCI-Express x16
Direct X 9.0 & 10.0 support
OpenGL 2.0+ support
Core Speed = 800 MHz +
Memory Speed = 1,400 MHz +
Etc.

They say that R520 core will be 4 times faster than the X800 Pro & the R580 core is 4 times faster than the X800XT PE.

What a disgusting looking ATI card this will be when released Can you fork over Lot’s of $$$$$$$$.

Having 512MB DDR4 memory is what DOOM 3 needs to take full advantage of its Ultra High Quality settings.

Besides all the speculation, I believe the radeon series is dead with the X850 PE
But what will the new series be called?

ATI has driven themselves into a hole, they should have seen this when they started with the 7 series instead of a lower number.

c'mon now ...
only BEST models had/have 256-bit & now, they will go with 512-bit? ... aaam no - at first they should start with lower prices for 256-bit ...

... anyways, everything looks just 2 good 4 2005 ... they shold first >sell us< all the stuff between this x850XT PE & your >4 times better< card ...

& ddr4 :D
... ŁoŁ ... & the name; X980
... there will not be any DirectX 10 ... (some other name)

ATI R520 "Fudo" has 24 plus pipelines

ATI'S FUTURE R520 CHIP will end up with a minimum of twenty four pipelines. We are talking about extremely big chip and it won't be a problem to plumb it with more than just twenty four pipes.
If we are talking about more than 300 million transistors in the chip that is 17 square mm small, we believe that we are talking about one of the biggest semiconductor chip for a computer ever built and it will be used for games.

We still cannot predict the exact number of pipelines of R520 chip. ATI placed 32 pipelines inside, but there is a chance that it will enable just 24 for a start. It will be a pure marketing decision but technically every R520 "Fudo" will have full 32 pipes. ATI can just keep these extra eight pipes for the later chip and enable them if necessary. If ATI's czars decide that they need more performance they will go with full 32 pipes.

You can imagine that twice as much pipelines from R420 generation can result with almost twice the performance that we saw with the Radeon X800 generation of cards. This will be creepily fast and one R520 can possibly give two NV45 a run for their money.

If this is not fast enough for you, you will be able to plug two cards in and have 48 or even 64 pipelines rendering your graphics at once. If ATI Multi rendering becomes ready this summer and R520 turns out good and fast, Nvidia's SLI will definitely have some nasty competition.

I just wonder when it is all going to slow down a little.
The way the video card market is set up it not unfeasable to spend a good deal of cash every year just to keep up with the new trends.
Unfortunatly we all can't own banks or even rob them. This leaves everyone having that "settled on this card" syndrome. Everyone wants the best but can only afford this or that. Even if you do spring for the ultimate best the manufacturers make sure that in 6 months you don't anymore.

The best thing a person can do is asses the needs they require from a video card and research that end of the market and purchase accordingly.

We are well aproaching and in some cases surpassing the cost of a mobo, cpu and ram cost for some of these high end cards. Here's a thought hook in an Athalon 64 to you comp in sli as the video card (just kidding LOL).

With video cards costing in the area of 3 times as much as a Sony Playstation one has to wonder a few things here:

1: Whay are the graphics on these machines so good if the price is nowhere near what we have to pay for high end video cards?
2: Is it nesessary to go out and spend 3 times the money for a video card if you want only to play the games and will a cheaper playststion 2 or x-box fit the bill.

Just a couple of observations. I know how these forums can be and believe me I am not lookin to insite a riot or flamefest (LOL) just a thought or 2.

Ehhhhhmmmmm PS2 and Xbox dont have nearly as good graphics as a high-end video card, not even amid-range card such as the 6600 non-gt which is like $100.

Thats not what iI am getting at. For the price of the whole system vs 1 good not even exeptional video card a guys gotta wonder why we have to pay so much. Since the ps or xbox is essentually a gaming comp (if not high end) made to just play games.

ATI & NVIDIA is battling for the Graphic's Card KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, there will be lot's of 512MB GDDR3 & GDDR4 cards coming out with 24 Pipes & ATI is coming out with 8 Vertex Engines. FAST!!! FAST!!! FAST!!!

ATI GPU Core Speed is said to be between 750MHz to 900MHz & there GDDR4 Ram is said to be 1200MHz to 1400MHz. R520 Core @ Radeon X900XT

MY friend is getting an Athlon 64 system with a X800 XT in it. I'll have to tell him the new Fudos are speculated to be twice as fast and dual enabled (if I say SLi, nVoodoo might sue me).

ATI's R520 will be as fast as FOUR X800Pro's put together. ;)
