What do you guys think? i wanted something under 550 but its hard when you also want something with some power. Should i go with Athlon x4 or phenom II x3 720 ? The benchmarks show the phenoms good power bump over the Athlons. I would go with 5770 but the 4870 is so much cheaper for the same performance

This would be better choice,5750 is newer and better than an outdated 4870 and corsair psu you can't go wrong with that and the 5750 is $100 after rebate.

Why don't u get a gtx460? Even the 768mb version will be faster than boh 4870 and 5770. Better if u can get the 1gb model though.

http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623538 a lot of threads when comparing the 4870 to a 5000 series card they always say to go with 5770 as far new technology goes. My monitor is an HP 2408h so i think i would need at least 5770 to keep up with the times

cheap mobo but should do the job

There is nothing wrong with a 5750 is there?? it can play just as good as a 5770 aswell, overclock it aswell and it be just as powerful as a stock 5770.
plus if you get a good quad it back up the 5750 easily,if i read your monitor spec correctly the resolution is 1920x1200?? You will need at least a GTX460 or 5850 to run games maxed on that resolution like full AA etc but just standard 5750 or 5770 can do it easy.

Go for at least a HD5770 then. The cheapest brand you can find. No fancy super-clocked or whatever mumbo jumbo. Can't you find one for around $150? I bet you can, if you look around a bit more. The gap between the stock 5750 and 5770 is significant.
