Hello guys, I need to set up a new Mini PC for doing some works with AutoCad and Maya (3D). As student I won't need to work on big projects so I don't need an High End system, anyway everything is better than my i5 3570K ahahah. For now I just need CPU, Mainboard and Ram. I have bought a Thermaltake V1 and I will keep my GTX 1060, the SSD and HDD and the Antec 750 W as Power supply for the moment. So budget 400 EUR for CPU, Mainboard (with wifi) and RAM.

I thought about a AMD Ryzen 5 3600X and a Asrock 90-MXB870-A0UAYZ FATAL1TY B450 Gaming-ITX ( I don't plan to do overclock) so maybe this mainboard is even too much hah.

Edit: I just noticed this one: Intel Core i7-9700, is it better than the Ryzen 5?

Suggestions? Thanks :)

Contrary to popular belief, 2D and 3D Autocad, as a single threaded application, is best served bu Intel CPUs and nVidia GFX Cards. Rendering in appa like Maya, OTOH is best served by multi-core CPUs and Quadro based cards. You are looking for the fastest single core performance for AutoCAD. Most Benchmarks are useless for AutoCAD ...

AutoDesk recommends only workstation cards because of potential errors .... but unless you designing the next 10 billion dollar bridge, I wouldn't worry about it .... I have been a practicing engineer for 40 years, building CAD systems for almost 30 years and never used a quadro ... or know anyone who does that doesn't do rendering.

hi,

I'll second john naylor replies.

I to was a practicing engineer for about 30 years using Autocad for major projects EG: Sydney Harbour Casino, and the hardware only used normal GFX cards.

I also use Autocad 2020 and Maya at home on my system with = Gigabyte GTX 1080 Ti, 11Gb card + Intel i7 - 7700 CPU, and it refreshes the screen it a flash= V/Quicck.

regards

Oh perfect, I didn't know. I read that for 3D rendering is better to have up to 32 GB of RAM. What do you think? for the CPU at this point is better to have the Intel Core i7-9700 which works at 3GHz than the Ryzen?

I read that the Intel doesn't come out with the heatsink so doesn't seem a good option at the moment. The Ryzen has 6 core, 12 threads and a faster clock, Intel 8 and 8. Another choice would be the i5 9600K.

Sorry for the UP but I found a great deal online:

Intel Core i5-10600 Boxed - 217 EUR instead of 280 €.
MSI H410M-A Pro - 67 € instead of 90 €

I looked online and honestly this CPU seems to be better than the 3600 X. Also cost less. What do you think? Can I go for it?

At my workplace we have a few people using Autocad and its products. I would suggest going with a Professional card if you can. (not necessary i think but its well worth it as it helps) We have been using these in our builds (Nvidia P1000)

Can you double check? I think its opposite. The 217 EUR is the 3600x maybe.
And you have to buy cpu cooler for intel.

Still 32GB out of your budget. Most software for rendering are CPU intensive so you need more cores/threads.
16GB is enough for now, unless your are using so many textures and using like 3ds max.

But if you can wait and add little more €, better go with Ryzen 3700x and cheap 3200mhz 16gb ram.

He has already GTX 1060 and even for latest Lumion 10 is already enough.
