Hi All,

I'm looking to build a new PC and wanted to see if the components I'm looking at all make sense and are going to play nicely with each other.

Intel i5-8600k
Asrock Z370 EXTREME4
MSI GTX 1080 (Already purchased)
G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4 3200MHz
Western Digital Blue 3D 500GB M.2
Western Digital WD Blue 4TB
Corsair TXM Series 750 W (Already purchased)
Corsair H115i or H150i
Corsair Carbide Series 275R Case
27" 1440p Acer Predator (Already purchased)

Additionally, I'm going to be selling my old computer:

Intel Core i5 4670K
Asus Z87I-PRO
MSI GTX 970
16Gb Kingston Fury DDR3 @ 934MHz
x2 250 Gb Samsung SSDs
x1 120 GB Samsung SSD
Corsair CX550 W
Fractal Nano S Case
Corsair H60 CPU Cooler
x2 Corsair ML Series140 mm

Do you think £500 is a fair price for this?

I appreciate any feedback in advance.

Thanks all!

Seriously, wait for the 9 series to come out. The soldered TIM alone might be worth it .
Nothing wrong with your build though.
I'm not going to hazard a guess on your old system's value from this side of the pond.

1. With the 9xxx series Z390 boards starting to drop, I'd wait and see what it delivers.

2. The Blue HDs are "low budget" HDs w/ rather skimpy 2 year warranty. We haven't bought a HD in about 8 years, putting SSDs + SSHDs in all builds. In THG's Gaming Bnechmarks, the SSDs have tested out 2.5 times the score of WD Blue.

3. I just don't "get" CLC type coolers.

a) You can get better thermal performance from a air cooler for less than a third of the price.
b) To get close to air cooler performance, it's going to be up to 12 times as loud.
c) CLCs violate th 1st law of water cooling ... NEVER mix metals in a loop. This creates a galvanic corrosion cells.
https://martinsliquidlab.wordpress.com/2012/01/24/corrosion-explored/
d) Weak pumps, inefficient aluminum rads, extreme speed / noisy fans.
e) Can not add / replace corrosion inhibitors (useful life = 18 months)
f) Can not replace components individually
g) Can not expand loop with extra blocks / rads.

Meanwhile, for comparable expense, you could have an OLC type AIO from EK or Swiftech which kicks tail thermally, is much quieter and has none of the above weaknesses.

$140 - 2 x 120mm / $165 - 2 x 120mm

The EK stuff may be easier to get in your neck of the woods.

If possible, I'd consider upping the case a bit... the case is a bit outta place with the level of the rest of the componentry.

They have since added the Tempered Glass and a few feature improvements ($160). There's also the Evolv X but that's only available via preorder

As to selling as a package .... here's our rule of thumb....

Rule of Thumb - Take your build cost and then subtract 10% .... then 5% for each month of age for 6 months (60% value at this point) ... then 10% for every 6 months thereafter.

0.5 year old - 60% of build cost
1.0 - 50%
1.5 - 40%
2.0 - 30%
2.5 - 20%
3.0 - 10%

Not everyone here as your budget or cash. Passing on facts and tips here is good enough.

Thanks for this input, very insightful.

I'll look into going with a 'be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 Processor Cooler' or something similar and get another SSD rather than an HDD. I quite like the look of the Phanteks cases, definitely food for thought.

@ ukk1d: Put it up on Gumtree for <>£350 but be prepared to accept £300-maybe less if the market is being particularly savage.

Good advice from John Naylor but a word about the Enthoo Luxe: It's VAST! If you're after something a little smaller the Enthoo Evolve, BeQuiet! Dark Base 600, Fractal Design Meshify or Define R6 may be more to your liking.

Right now the updated 9XXX Intel parts are up for preorder at heavily inflated prices, making them an ( in some cases ) very poor value proposition, but if you can hold off a while that should sort it self out.
Also, reviews should start turning up Oct 19th, so I suggest you hold off until we get some proper evaluations before finalising your choices.
