Hi guys, i want to hear your thought about a new mini itx system that i'm planning, the idea is to make this for around £600

Intel I5 6500 or 6600 i don't know if the 6400 would be a good idea
Asus Z170I PRO GAMING
16GB Corsair DDR4 2800
Corsair CS650M Plus Gold
Zalman M1 Black mini ITX

I'm still trying to decide between the GTX 1060 or the RX 480, i do prefer nvidia drivers but i think amd with vulkan and dx12 have more potential.

i already have a samsung evo 850 250GB

your choice really, i myself was going to go for a GTX 1060 but none were in stock, so i grabbed a RX 480 and am happy with it :) i came from a GTX 680 and loved Nvidia drivers, but AMD drivers arent bad either...just get rid of gaming evolved or improve it, it sucks atm.

did you get the 8GB version ? the only thing about the RX480 is that i want go for a non stock that have a 8 pin connector, because of the PCI-E power draw, that could help to overclock it a little.

What about the PC on your specs? it has great PSU and also a case, those parts could be re-used... for saving some pennies,
also yyou will like to get Z170 board with a locked processor?

I left that pc in my home, it was too big to bring it from venezuela to the uk, i was thinking about overclocking the cpu and i know that the Z170I PRO GAMING has a mod bios to overclock non k cpu, but you lose quite some things like thermal sensor, etc. the prices difference here from the 6500 to 6600K is around £40 plus the cooler.

its better to have the "K" Variant... not the locked one, also better resale value!

an rx480 vs 1060 at same tier within those cards is like a 50-60 dollar price difference and the rx480 is better equipped to handle the nez graphics api's. Seems like an easy choice. AMD crimson drivers are getting really good and every update is seeing good performance gains. The 1060 may edge out the rx480 now but in 6 months i can easily see it being the other way around. Even if the cards were the same price i think the 480 is better buy but at the cheaper price it's like a no brainer almost.

For mini itx with severe space constraints the much lower 120 watt tdp vs 220 watt tdp on the overbuilt rx480's is a consideration though.

Not sure why so many people are enthralled with Vulkan potential. Other than Doom, nothing of any real consequence is using it yet.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_Vulkan_support

Not that DX12 is lighting the gaming world on fire either.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support
Dota 2 is one of the most played games and now use it for example.

Well i think it is because is an open platform API, you can used in windows (7,8,10), linux, android, while DX12 only on windows 10 and XBOX ONE, even PS4 and apple could potentially use it. Also there are a lot of people who don't want to switch to windows 10, if you take in consideration that windows 10 free upgrade ended 2 days ago more people are going to continuing using windows 7 and 8. there are some games do much better on linux and if you also add vulkan the gap could go even bigger.

Just in cases i'm not a fan boy of Radeon (AMD) i have been using Nvidia since the 99 when i got my riva TNT2, but i do believe vulkan have more potential, and for obvious reason is better implemented on AMD because is base on mantle.

Get an RX 480 because of the Vulkan/DX12 Support. Besides it has CrossFire support while the 1060 doesn't. So you could just put in another RX 480 later because the scaling is pretty good. Mostly above 75%. Besides many future games will /hopefully\ have Vulkan and DX12 support!
