Alright, This is what I'm thinking for a new build when my tax return comes in.
What would you change if anything?



Asrock x79 extreme
i7 3820 3.60ghz (lga 2011)
Corsair vengeance 16gb 1866mhz
Samsung 840 250gb ssd
Hightech ati hd 7970 3gb 384bit 3gb ddr5
LG IPS277L 27"
Corsair obsidian 650D
Corsair 750w hx

Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks Good

Looks like a powerful combination. Corsair is probably the best company out there, so those are solid choices (although if I had the $, the AX760i/AX860i would be my choice). I also prefer nVidia cards, but yours is probably more bang for the buck. The only other thing I might change is the SSD - you'd have a super fast CPU and video card, and quad channel memory, so the drive (any drive) would be your only bottleneck, so it makes sense to get one of the fastest ones (Vector, 840 Pro, Neutron GTX) or maybe 2 of them and RAID 0 for the ultimate speed. I'm just sayin'...

Useful advice there hood. That is a very valid point, my bottleneck would be the ssd in that build wouldn't it.Perhaps I will look into a faster, bit more expensive one =P

Anything for a fellow sufferer. I wish I could afford your proposed build, but my humble i5-3570K/Z77/660Ti build is plenty fast for now. Ultimately, I want to build a ridiculously overblown Ivy Bridge Extreme rig (assuming they release them), in a Corsair 900D case with SLI and everything water cooled and lit up, just because it may soon be impossible or impractical to build such a monster. Soon they'll start soldering CPUs to the boards, even in desktop PCs, then the RAM will be built in, and nothing will be the same. I'm sure they'll perform a lot better, but it just won't be the same.
