New case loop order?

Well my o11D XL Rog case should be actually here in morning. Here is the loop order i have settled on. Fans will be as white arrows. Only thing im not sure on is the two 140 fans i have for the side positions, in or out?

I have a similar build (Lian Li O11D Mini -- the one listed in my system specs) and my loop order is identical.

The only differences is that A.) my bottom radiator is 360 mm and B.) my two side fans are 2 x 120mm (both intake).

At some point i may change the bottom rad to a 360 too, top one ill be a EK 360 PE. bottom is EK 280 CE. Not even sure if the 140mm fans will fit at the side yet.

If it were mine I wouldn't bother with the rear fan and just leave top exhaust only.
Remember that it is warm air coming from the bottom and that if you remove the airflow over the VRMs on the back they might get on the warm side. The extra flow going out at the backside of the case could be needed. Well it is easy to find out - fan on and off. I could easily be wrong...test it. The extra noise will be on the back and the case will reduce it.

Air flow from the bottom to top will be more direct without it, just my way of thinking.
It needs to be tested, not a big problem.

My O11D Mini accepts 140 mm fans in the side.

However I went with the 120 mm size because I wanted to run those two intake fans and the back exhaust fan on the same fan header and the case will not accommodate a 140mm fan in the back. My mini-ITX motherboard only has three fan headers (the other two headers are for the CPU radiator fans and GPU radiator fans respectively).

If I recall correctly, 280 mm radiators and 360 mm radiators have comparable cooling capability. There is more selection and variety available in the 360 mm radiator size though. Same with the 120 mm fan size.

My top CPU radiator is 20.5 mm thick, the XSPC TX360 Ultrathin. The bottom GPU radiator is 30 mm thick, an Alphacool NexXxos ST30. The case has enough clearance for thicker radiators in both locations but I (correctly) estimated that these two radiators would be quite sufficient for cooling their respective components.

My O11D Mini case was a dream to build in. My loop has plenty of cooling capacity and the fans run quietly even when the system is maxed out, whether it's a Handbrake encode or a gaming session. Mission accomplished.

Loop order for cooling purposes does not matter. If you have a good flow rate, the temps between blocks will be 1-3c difference. So setup the look whatever way you like.

If the flow rate is poor, yeah it can matter for those higher overclocks. For mild or stock, it makes zero difference what is first in the loop. I'm running my test benches with the Radiator first because the tube runs are shorter.

XL case - loop order looks good...

I would put both rads as intakes (one on the side) -- you can still mount the fan there.

Top and back open exhausts.

Thx guys. i will take pics as i build it. I have 4 90 degree rotarys to use in the loop too, as i'm using Ek black tubing, thought it might stop some tight bends.

Your temperature will not be limited by the radiators but by the heat transfer from the IHS to the block(s). In my younger days I would have backed that up with data, now it's just a gut feeling. :laugh:

It's true. I have a single 240mm rad on my 5950x that keeps the temps below 60 most of the time due to my optimus block.

Might also be due to the mayhems XTR but that's minor I think.

We need some apple to apples here. I can throw in some numbers as well but we need a common standard test :)
I run 100 % CPU (WCG/Rosetta mix) on my 3900X and see 66°C. My rad is outside the case :D and the fans are not at 100% since the last RMPs doesn't move that number. Equipment in SS.

My 100% cpu is OCCT and see no more than 63c
