New Catalyst 'Omega' is Borking my Desktop

I downloaded AMD's new 'Omega' Control Center yesterday, and I think it borked my desktop. I use the Aero feature of Windows 7. Everything was fine with it before I installed Omega yesterday, but after installing it, my Windows Aero theme disappears and reverts to the "Windows Basic" theme; I can't even get options for Aero.

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, here are pics I took:

This is what it reverts to shortly after turning my computer on

Would uninstalling Omega and installing the last CCC I had (14.9 I believe) get rid of this problem?

On a slightly more serious note, though, I'm using a 7950 and none of the drivers after 14.4 have shown to be worth my time. Quite the opposite.
AMD will never learn.

Best if you use the Catalyst Clean Uninstall Tool, then try again with 14.12... Good luck!

what programs do you have opening with windows? I fixed this the other day on a system that for example had an old version of quicktime starting it would kick it back to basic. until i shut it off and ultimately updated it.

7970 here which is the same as a 280X no issues at all with the Omegas. You didn't happen to just install over top did you?

I had to do a full driver cleaning before installing the drivers worked. I've seen no benefit so far though, granted I'm using 6870s.

It might not be the fault of the drivers. There could be some program triggering a switch to Aero basic.

Try looking at Task Manager to see what's running and see if that gives you an idea - give us a screenshot of it if you need to. Also, look at the startup processes with MSCONFIG and disable third party stuff (careful doing this, though) and reboot the PC.

Before getting into all this though, try going to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting and clicking on the Display Aero desktop effects troubleshooting wizard. Then click Advanced and ensure that the auto repair option is ticked. If it doesn't find anything, or fixes a problem, Aero will just come back, no reboot required.

For me to CCC v14.11 problem often alerting me on a display driver installation error. I'm CFX R9 280X Toxic. Omega Version 14.12 is successfully installed without any problems.

Try a clean install.
If that doesn't work, try DDU in safe mode, then installing the drivers in safe mode.
That's what I am reading in google so far.
Having issues myself with it.

CCC wouldn't even open for me after updating so I'm uninstalling all AMD software and trying Omega again.

My computer at present acts like there is no driver installed (1600x1200 and computer is blissfully unaware there is more than one monitor plugged in). Will post back shortly with results.

i have a 6950 and no problems with the new omega driver all normal and im at 1080p, like the guys already tell you do a clear install or roll back to the last fine drivers XD.

To be honest, this is only the second time I've had problems with AMD drivers in well over a decade of using their cards. Mafia II had problems on AMD graphics cards last time I checked but that may have been fixed by now or maybe something 2K Games would need to fix.

I have one monitor at 1920x1200 and another at 1440x900. With 14.12 installed, it was forcing both to 1600x1200 (latter monitor obviously pissed off about that) and Windows wasn't even aware two were plugged in. I did a clean install and the result was the same. I'm presently running on a clean install of 14.9.

Uninstall Catalyst (without DDU) via " Add & Remove Applications ( MS Windows Panel )
Using DDU for uninstall all everything else (delete C: \ AMD etc etc ...)
Reboot your system
Install Catalyst 14.12 Omega for your platform (32 or 64 bit).
Reboot the system.
and cross your fingers!

If the installation does not work; go here to inform AMD (they generally respond!)

edit: Personally I have never been able to install 14.11 / beta / beta2 a Saturday after noon I took my patience wrong and I reinstalled Windows 7; by putting the 14.11 beta 2 version to replace the present cdrom my motherboard. it worked to desuite. Besides Omega presented no worries. but maybe if I had not reinstalled windows so that the problem would also be posed as to you.
