Hey guys !

Hoping to invest in a new rig this FALL :)
Specs :

MotherBoard : ASUS M5A99X EVO
CPU : 6 core Zambezi FX-6100
Memory : CORSAIR 4096MB Dominator DHX Pro Connector DDR3 1600MHz
Grahics Card : My GTS 250 until Nvidia Kepler ! I am thinking a GTX 660 if called this.
PowerSupply : FSP Aurum Gold 600W
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question! -Until i get my hands on a Kepler GPU next year will there be big problems with a brand new AMD FX-6100 and an old GTS 250 GPU when playing games ? :S

aside from the GTS250 being the bottleneck, they'll work fine together

Probably construct closer to fall then, price changes are too wild in such a long space of time, especially ram prices.

you could get a cheap gtx460 or maybe just a 260, there is still some waiting. But that really depends on what games you play and want to play. BF3 is the only high requirement game that releases this year. If you wan't BF3 go for the 460 otherwise wait for the 660, even tho i think they go with a new name scheme since Nvidea has newer gone past 5xx on their 3 degit series.

Yepp already pre ordered BF3 :) But nearly all games that require a little + my GTS 250 512 mb barely runs them on medium settings or low( i always play in 1920x1080 but lowering the resolution never helped with any game only made it worst :/ ) .. If its a consol port then High is a definite, like FEAR 3 :) . I know i need a new GPU and there are really cheap ones that perform 2x times better than mine but dont have enough cash for it :/ For now ofc :) We will see !

I owned a GTX 460SE Overclocked at 905mhz (core) and it came close to my 5850 in some things so a regular GTX 460 with all the shaders OCed should do quite well.

either upgrade all of them together, or don't. you will lose a lot of $$$ if you upgrade part of the PC now. get a gtx560 now, sell it off if you have to when kepler comes out (a long way to go!). it won't be a waste, even though you feel otherwise. not buying a good video card NOW will be the waste. you'll be wasting everything else you've just bought because it doesn't make any different in gaming compared to your existing rig. what's the point?

I aint sure if a GTS250 will be able to run BF3 at 1920x1080, we will see... I would wait and becnhmark BF3 and if it doesnt run it, get a new PC with a GTX460 (no SE). Keep your eyes open for a sale somewhere, you might be able to get a cheap card :)

EDIT: Checked newegg and there was a GTX460 2GB for 120$, but they where out of stock :(

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130649 this one looks good, but maybe you want to try your luck later.

You would probably notice a difference, but the difference would be nothing compared to having a much better GPU. He has plenty of time, so I am more interested in his current setup. If it's a decent setup a new GPU might be all that's needed (for now), GTS250 is a pretty dated card at this point, and even back in the day wasn't exactly a peak performer. BF3 would destroy a GTS250 I'm quite sure...

My current rig : Motherboard - MSI P6N SLI Platinum
CPU - Intel Core Duo e6420 OC' to 3.0 GHZ
Memory - Kingston 3x1 GB 800 Mhz
Graphics C. - GTS 250 512 MB
Power Supply - Coolink 450 W
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
But it functions very baadly .. CPU oc'd or not the comp sometimes freezes .. Lower performance than the other same level comps ... Needs a complete makeover :)

PS: O yea and maybe its a driver issue but none of the dx 10 games start for me just crashes when starting up all which is dx10 i mean those i tried out ofc :). I always refresh my driver with clean install when a new comes out but nothing .. if the game is like Just Cause 2 it just wont start up ever .. :/ Something broken on it ?

I blame your cheap power supply

Pull 1 stick of that memory. Sounds like it's in single channel which is causing your "bottlenecks". Methinks the GTS250 would play nice @ 1680x1050 medium visuals without AA. Still able to game but not get all the eye candy.

EDIT:

Nevermind abotu the power supply, FSP is pretty decent. If you want cheap, get a 2nd GTS250. That would put you roughly in terms of performance at GTX285.

I am seeing that a lot of u guys use Corsair as a PSU . Is it any good ? Because i also read that most of them are noisy and can break down in days .

I agree, there are alot of Corsair PSU users in this forum. I also agree with their choice, they are one of the best PSU manufacturers in the business. Although, with that said, I know of many many second tier companies (your choice in FSP for instance) that work just as good when it comes to basic use of a power supply without extreme overclocking and for your average every day user.

EDIT:
I am an Antec/Thermaltake/Topower guy. :) A few others I would look at dependent on price, PC Power & Cooling(older ones before OCZ took them)Seasonic Silverstone Seventeam Xigmatek & XFX. Sometimes you can get modular from those manufacturers of the same wattage for the same price as the Corsairs (Except PC P & C Silverstone & Seasonic) or be not as exepnsive non-modular and perform just as good.

Corsair also offer 7year warranty.

Pretty much speaks for itself

Alright then its settled :) I will have budget for the new Corsair TX650M or for a normal CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650W v2 and i will buy a GTX 460 1GB with normal cooling so that i can OC it a little until Kepler is released :)

My advice is try to get a video card from the FS threads. Will be cheaper, or u can get a faster card for same $$$
