EDIT: Found a computer and picked it up today thanks to Kantastic! :)

I'm visiting my family in Florida in the next few weeks and would love to surprise my step-Dad with a new computer. What he has right now is very old and outdated (think 64MB of DDR memory)!

My step-Dad is a musician and I'd like to find him a computer for music recording and editing.

The specs aren't set in stone, but ideally I think I'd like to get him a computer with the following:
- Newer dual/quad core CPU
- 500GB HDD
- 4GB RAM (DDR3 if possible)
- CD/DVD Burner

This is going to be a gift so I'd like to try to keep the price down if possible.

All of his peripherals are outdated as well so if you could spare an extra keyboard, mouse, etc. that would be much appreciated but of course not required.

Let me know what you guys have, please help me help him out - he's a really good guy. :)

I've got everything you need except the CD/DVD Burner.

List:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz (lapped)
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86 GHz
- Gigabyte G41M-ES2L Rev 1.1
- Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (which will not overclock at all, bad batch I suspect, so would go cheap)
- 4x1 GB of Mushkin DDR2-800
- Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB
- Antec EA380 380W
- Sapphire HD 4650

PM me and maybe we can work something out :)

Thank you for the replies and offers so far. There are some nice parts at great prices.

I might not have been clear enough in my original post, what I'm looking for is a complete computer tower. The trip to Florida is coming up quicker then I had anticipated and I have quite a few things I need to take care of at work so I don't have the time to put together a computer in the meantime.

For now, just fully assembled computer tower offers please. Also, ideally I'd like to keep it under $350 or so if at all possible. This is going to be his everyday/business computer but at the same time he doesn't need anything too high tech either.

May be you should look into pre-built systems for simplicity sake,

lenovo IdeaCentre H405 (7723-1AU) Athlon II X2 255...

For a full assembled system shipping is the one that will kill the deal.

You need OS too?

my 2 cents.
