Hey Guys

My PC is not the best games on high settings, so time for an upgrade!
I was thinking of an AMD FX 8320 to take, but I doubt enormously in their case, motherboard and power supply.

My goal is to do with gaming, video rendering and to overclock course.
My budget is € 320

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Can I ask what problems you are experiencing? At resolutions below 1080p, I'm incredibly surprised that your GTX 760 is having problems. I have an R9 270x, which performs slightly worse than the GTX 760, but I can easily handle games at High-Ultra settings at 1080p, often with a stable ~60FPS. And your CPU doesn't look like a huge problem - the only shortfall it may have in gaming would be for strategy games (i.e. Civilization V), which are very CPU intensive. What kind of games do you play?

In terms of upgrading, my first port of call would be your PSU - that thing sounds like a fire waiting to happen. Also, your GPU means that you should probably have more than 450W powering your system - at least 550W would be good. If the decision is to upgrade to FX 8320, you will also need to upgrade your motherboard also.

8/8 would read again.

Grab yourself a 550W PSU like the G Series 550, XFX 550 or Corsair RM550, then buy yourself an A85X/A88X motherboard, and then overclock that 5800K to 4.5Ghz no problem. From personal experience, a 750K @4.4Ghz (5800K without the iGPU) can run games flawlessly with a GTX 780 on 1440p (we're talking about bangshoot games, not Total War). Get that PSU and MoBo sorted.
Alternatively buy yourself a cheap B85 MoBo (if you can afford a cheap cheap Z87 go for it) and the i5 4440, would probably slaughter your current setup.

His budget is 320 euro, not sure how he can fit a motherboard and PSU alongside a 4770. Some detail in your post on how he can do that might be good.

Well maybe something like these 2 combinations:
1. Combination
CPU: AMD FX-8320 (160$)
MOBO: ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 AM3+ (135$ after rebate 115$)
PSU: CORSAIR CX series CX750 (80$ after rebate 60$)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 (60$)
TOTAL: 435$ or 320 euro's (not considering the rebate- with it it's less)

2. Combination
CPU: AMD FX-8320 (160$)
MOBO: ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 AM3+ (135$ after rebate 115$)
PSU:
NZXT HALE82 V2 700W (85$)
Case:
NZXT Phantom 240 (70$)
TOTAL: 450$ or 330 euro's (not considering the rebate- with it it's less)

Thank you! I''ll take a look of both systems!!

Thank you! I''ll take a look of both te systems!!

May I suggest looking at a lower wattage power supply and save some money - an 80+ Gold/Bronze 550W by Corsair (RM), Seasonic (G-series) or XFX (Pro, XTR, TS) PSU would probably be more suitable than a 700W+ power supply. Also, the ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 may be better, and cheaper as long as you don't plan on SLI - same amazing overclocking performance, and designed for single GPU systems.

you should consider if a i3-4330, a h87 MB, and a gtx 770 will perform better than your current system.

yes, what i just listed looks weak, but i was surprised when i build a system with those components (but i used a gtx680amp! instead, and a gigabyte h87 mini-itx..)
yes, you can't overclock it, and it only has two true cores but it is amazing fast...

why i am saying this is that my fx8350 system, (fx8350, gtx680amp!) seems to play games that the same speed as the i3-4330 system...

i am thinking of using the new i5-4690, (3.5 Ghz) because of the four cores, which should allow to only give up 2-5% of the theoretical performance that a 4770k (overclocked) would give me.

the i3-4330 system gives up about 5-15% of the theoretical performance of that of a 4770, (but the i3-4330 still allows very playable frame rates, because it is the GPU that does the heavy lifting.)

i am basing my observations on my experience with the i3-4330 and reading the anandtech review of the new haswell refresh...

http://anandtech.com/show/7963/the-...iew-core-i7-4790-i5-4690-and-i3-4360-tested/9

some of the benchmarks are puzzling because, the i7-4765T (35 watts, 2GHz/3GHz turbo ) is in the same league or beating the 4770k.
but prehaps it is uncovering a "secret" of intels processors...

An upgrade from a GTX 760 to a GTX 770, with the other, more important upgrades needed and not a massive budget, is pointless.

I partly agree with what you're saying. If the OP is in to strategy games such as Civ V that are very CPU intensive, then an i3-4330 has much better single-core performance, and is suitable for these games. But for all other games, I think the eight-core (vs dual-core of the i3) of the AMD FX 8350, and its overclockability, may be a better choice.

So OP, what kind of games are experiencing problems with? What genre of games do you play the most?

CoD and I believe Minecraft do not have very high hardware requirements. You should not be having any issues running those games on the highest setting. Have you ran virus and malware scan?

Minecraft and CoD run smooth, but bf4, crysis 3 and grid 2 not (on ultra)

Alright..crysis 3 and bf4 are extremely demanding games and need an i5 and 760-770 to run at 60 fps constant..you should not be having problems but the PSU IS NOT UP TO THE TASK OF HANDLIMG A 760!.. DONT KNOW HOW IT HAS BEEN RUNNING IT TILL NOW...if you a good bang for buck build see mine..and one more thing the gpu is more than fine to run games at 1080p and lower but you should get a 4th gen i5 ..get a good 600w PSU from corsair or seasonic..and as the first post mentioned it greatly depends on the type of games you play if they are fps action adventure, then i5 and 760 will last you for a long time..but if you play extreme strategy games then consider getting an i7 as the ps4 has 8 cores and as the architecture is same then the ports will look for the same..I personally play bf3 at 900p at 60 fps in multiplayer..the i 3 has immense amount of power and is the best dual core CPU possible and with hyperthreading, it performs exactly same as an i5 and i7 in GPU bound games I.e. most fps and action campaigns..bf4 multiplayer needs an i5..press thanks if I helped you it is in the lower right hand corner
