OLD POST: Hey all, me and Ketxxx are making a Doom 3 mod. Doe snayone have any features they'd like to see? So far, I've tweaked a few weapons, and Ket is supplying a grpahic optimisation file, and I've made performance engancments (everyone should be able to run in Ultra quality with it)

I'll upload the current build of what we have when Ket uploads the graphics file.

Duct tape!!

And by that I mean you should be able to pick up duct tape and extra flash lights to add to weapons. Not "every weapon has a flashlight". Make duct tape scarce so you have to really think about which weapons to put the flash light on.

IT may not be possible, but it's an idea.

Yeah, I'm looking into using the duct tape element. Weapons I was going to put a flashlight on were Shotgun, Pistol, Machinegun, BFG and Chaingun, and make Plama bursts brighter. Also forgot to mention about the flares feature I was going to implement.

I'm learning how to map, so you'll have some pretty new levels in the final release, if not then, then v2.0.

@Ketxxx: Do you know how to do shader effects and stuff?

This mod just got loads better. And bigger. Legendary Dafama2k7 has given us permission to use his Shader Mod, which adds LOADS of quality. See the screenies for yourself (these are'nt from this mod, these are to show the quality of what we're been allowed to implement) Ket, you might need to rewrite the Doomcfg.:

Nooo, don't just add the flashlights to weapons and be done. Try and find a way so you choose which weapons have flashlights, would make it much more interesting. Add a bit of strategy

"Hmm...do I add the flashlight to the sub-machine gun or the shotgun..." that kind of thing, make you figure out which would be better based on ammo consumption, amount of time used, usefulness overall etc.

IMO thers a lot of strategy anyway by making the machinegun and pistol the weapons with flashlights.. means you need to concentrate on those headshots more for the bigger game enemy.. thats why god invented the flare and BFG

What should be done is enhance bump maps, if I remember correctly my file enhanced bump mapping as much as possible with what the game already had by default, but it could look so much better with the proper effort put in. May also be worth thinking about adding a scope to the handgun, may seem a little odd, but there are plenty of handguns that use scopes, whereas we cant put one on the machinegun.

Hmm... maybe not a scope, but maybe a LAS (Laser Aiming System) on the machinegun and pistol? Also, new version will be up when I'm back from school

you cant have a flashlight and laser sight on the handgun and machinegun very easy..the models arent very friendly like that. You could feasibly get both on the handgun, torch could be under the barrell and the laser sight on the top, some handguns can accomodate both like that. As for the machinegun.. I cant see any way of putting a sight on that, the model is too chunky. IMO sight OR torch under the barrell for the machinegun, perhaps make it so attachments are interchangeable on the machinegun. Cant have it so encounters are easy, it'll destroy what gameplay D3 does have.
