It will now search in title, text, tags, news icon, with different weights, and not just in title like before.

Use the checkbox to toggle between old and new

To open the search click the magnifying glass icon (ICYMI has been in this same spot for over 10 years)

Friday Morning Derp. I've always used the search box in the upper left. I wonder how I even get out of bed some days.

New (and old) search are great and fast! :lovetpu:

Looks good to me. Maybe keep a "titles only" filter if the new one becomes permanent?

have you found any scenario where titles only gives you a noticeably better result than the new search?

I probably won't use your new feature, I prefer to still search everywhere and by title only.

For example, I was trying to find some old news recently (but TPU never reported on this news I guess) so when I search through the News section it doesn't come up, but if I search the entire website, low and behold there was one result for "Lenovo Malware" which gave me the link to an original source I was looking for. Scrolling through old news sometimes is fun to do though, especially if I am trying to jog my recent memory, so having that link to "recent headlines" I find helpful still. Image at the bottom.

We are a really big community, so limiting a search to news instead of everywhere and by title only might miss some things. Even though the article below isn't official news, it still takes me to where I wanted to go, as most people do include original sources to stoke the discussion some.

My test was "5800X3D" and the first news post was about a Alder Lake CPU. Old search gave a different first couple of results.

Pressing any key in the search field will re-run the search. That includes arrow keys and Page Up/Down, which to me is annoying as I often use the keyboard to scroll the page.

Potentially misleading behaviour: it searches for whole words but then highlights partial matches too. In your initial example, it searches for 13900K and not 13900KS, but also highlights 13900KS.
Old search is different, I can enter 3900 and it finds 13900.

seems fine now, but just a heads up, even with no addons your beta search doesn't work on chrome beta.

it works just fine on firefox beta with no addons.

works for me on regular chrome .. can you try again? maybe you tested when i was resetting the search database

and I have no idea why I chose to trigger on "keyup" and not on "input" a decade ago .. changed to "input" .. does that work for you?

the best i could do would be prefix match, which could be useful? i.e. if you type "3900" it will search for "3900*" word starting with 3900.

Any other opinions whether this is an improvement or will return tons of useless results?

yep, it doesn't work on Chrome Beta, it won't let you click the little beta search box.

Anyone else here with Chrome Beta that can verifiy it doesn't work on Chrome Beta? I tried it a few times and made sure no add-ons were active, as well as trying in incognito mode with no addons. Every time I click the "try beta" it just makes half the screen vanish, lol weird

works fine on Firefox for me though

Somethings different from earlier? I put in 5800X3D and all the articles for said processer popped right up. Nothing about Alder Lake.

Works fast! Great feature for the main page!!!!! Good job @W1zzard :toast:

All works great, thank you. Chrome on Windows will even listen to PgUp/PgDn and scroll the page when the cursor is in the search field. FF on Windows won't. The expected behaviour is probably that of FF but I like Chrome's better.

I've programmed similar searches before and it's always a dilemma how to treat partial matches. Maybe 3900 without quotes should search for 3900*, and "3900" with quotes should search for 3900 exactly (but that's not very intuitive).

I also see quotes have some effect now but it's weird:

noise cancelling finds KEF Launches Mu7 Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones (...) but "noise cancelling" doesn't

"cancelling noise" finds only Introducing Beats Studio Buds True Wireless Earphones with Active Noise Cancellation which contains both words but not the exact phrase

noise cancelling (with two spaces) finds nothing, even the "No search results found" message is missing

(and all those press releases, I know they are published unedited, so there will always be a mix of cancelling as canceling in them)
