I could build that with half the money. Seems like your not hunting around for good prices. www.ebuyer.com <---one of the cheapest component sites with free delivery with orders over £49

Secondly I cant justify spending £176 on a motherboard, when your motherboard costs more than your processor it hardly leaves a credible impression. £176 is unacceptable I don't care whether it has SLI or not

Also, your using a crap PSU.
Make sure you get a quality PSU.
Some good companies are Corsair, FSP, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling.

Ok good. Well be more selective. For a start that motherboard has to go. You can get similarly spec'd ones for less than 70. You haven't yet specified what this systems primary objects are, office work, gaming, how long do you expect it to last before upgrading, do you plan on upgrading, what about over clocking?

Just out of curiousity why are you picking only SLI boards.
If you picked a non-SLI board you could prob. save some money.

They arent worth it unless you are looking to SLI 2 8800GTXs right now.
Plus you wont get that much of a performance boost (about 30 - 40 percent) when SLIed.

The thing about that thought process is that by the time a 9800GTX or another card comes out for xxx dollars, it will be more worth it to just upgrade the 1 card instead of settling for less performance w/ 2 cards.

If this upgrade is taking place in a few months, your better off waiting until then before making any decisions, in a few months prices will fall, new hardware will be out etc. So all this research will be pointless then. Worth thinking about?

Although dual core is barely needed, If this computer is going to last a full 4 years, your going to need a quad core processor, give you more scope for programming techniques which might make use of multiple cores such as quad between now and 4 years.

For quad you need a minimum of Q6600 - £164.16
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131950

You can find your own motherboard, soo many on the market for me to decide on, take a look around for some cheap ones, post the model number and price and I will evaluate it.

PS. Can you please fill out your current specification in the "edit system specs" option of the "private messages" setting.

Defiantly invest in a high-quality case, that one you got there would be pretty crappy, and probably wont have NEAR enough airflow to keep all your parts cool, hell, my computer has 2 intake 120MM's and 2 exhaust 120MM's, and it is just enough to keep my stuff cool:p

right now the dual cores are "better" because almost all the software and games uses up to 2 cores, BUT...in the near future the games will come out using ALL 4 CORES wich will make a C2D crapy
