Hold out. There's no reason to pull the trigger on one now when the 2080 ti is coming soon! Wait and watch and you'll find that sellers drop the price of their 1080 tis for an upgrade.

That's my plan, I think the newer RTX 2080's/2080 Ti's are something I'd like to see in reviews but I think for the money Nvidia are just mad trying to push people to spend so much.. But people will....

I would specifically recommend AGAINST the Armor coolers. In my experience, they're no better than the FE coolers. I would also recommend looking hard at the 1070 Ti since there is so little difference between it and the 1080.

I've heard some not so great things about these models, but I'm not sure how true it is, will look forward to finding out

I have had 2 of the more modern designs that were problem free, quiet and cooled well but I may have just got lucky. As for the 1070Ti, I completely agree and I was going to suggest that as there is not a great deal of difference, however over here I couldn't find any deals on the Ti so currently the 1080 can be had for either cheaper or thereabouts.

In any situation where you have a new generation of a 'thing" coming out ... yes, wait. Wher eit be a carm CPUm GFX card or just about anythiung else.... and discount you get in anticipation of the new "thing" arriving, will be smaller than the discount for all those that are left when the new 'thing " actually arrives". Moreover, you may find that there is a new thing is actually cheaper than the old thing ... for example, a new 2060 may be cheaper than a old 1070. But at this point no one has any idea how the new cards will actually perform . So, yes, resist the urge and desire for getting a new toy, sit and be patient until you are in a position to make an informed choice.

Just looking around the web and cant see any mention of over temps.

Most say the card runs 70c and around under load.

So have i made a mistake buying this model?

The Bumblebee was right that there have be issues in the past with the cooler performance with some of the Armor's, but I am fairly certain they are not with current gen 1070/1080 models, the reviews speak for themselves, take a look at this page regarding cooler performance and noise, nothing to worry about here.......

My experience was with a single GTX 1080 Ti that had a very hard time staying below 80°. If others are saying that the cooler works well on the 1080, then I should be ignored. I'd rather pay extra for a Gaming or ASUS Strix model, because of their history of cool, quiet and longevity.

I'd tend to go with EVGA cards myself, but a FTW card I believe is the top dog but you do pay a bit more for it, same as the Strix cards I suppose you can get what you pay for

It's easy enough to review past cards and see which designs have done well. For me, it's more of a matter of which to avoid, the which ones to target.

1. Avoid all reference designs
2. Avoid EVGA SC series, since the 5xx generation, EVGA has historically used the reference PCB design and overlockers have burned quite a few up trying to hit OCs that other AI vendors routinely accomplished. Wit the 970SC, the design was deficient in that 1/3 of the heat sink actually "missed" the GPU (later corrected with SSC model). With the 10xx series, oth the SC and FTW designs were deficient and overclockers were again burning them up. This was addressed by a cooling repair kit which users could request which provided the missing thermal pads necessary to keep VRMs and memory chips adequately cooled.
3. After that, it's all about the numbers....which one scores the highest, which one hits what temps and at what noise level. TPUs reviews do a great job of providing this info. Take note that then idle temps will be higher on the "better cards" which turn off the fans when temps below 60C. of course, better cooling oft means more noise as does higher OCs ....but anything under 70 is more than fine

I personally think you could of gotten a better buy on ebay… but theres an element of risk involved and i know its nice to just get a brand new gpu. I went ebay route and got lucky with mine... good luck with that card though. it will serve you well.

When that happened to me when I bought my GTX 580's at Scan, I contacted them and they refunded the difference I'd definitely give them a shout back or if they won't say then I'd like a full refund when I return the product... Should work no problem

Nvidia recommend around a 650-750w power supply, I can't really recommend any since I only stick to 80+ platinum fully modular units I've had an excellent experience with both my power pro 11 750w and my seasonic snow silent 750w

Take a look at the "PSU tier" chart - that'd help a lot, only stick to top end units.

Get a Jonnyguru review first before even buying a power supply.

Thermaltake can be a big-time hit and miss some of their units are great others are trash so tread carefully
