I just bought from a friend a DELL INSPIRON 400 Zino HD HTCP computer. The exact configuration have an AMD Neo x2 CPU, 4Gb DDR2 mem, 1Tb Samsung F3, BluRay and a discrete HD4330 512Mb GPU. I want to change the GPU with something more powerful to play some games... I was thinking to put a HD5870m or a GTX460m but i don't know that it is compatible or not?!

It looks to me the GPU is a BGA solution, Can anyone confirm what the slot on the back of the motherboard is for?

I can't confirm it but it looks like a mini PCI-E slot for Wi-Fi or a SSD. I don't think you have the option to upgrade the graphics on this machine. I don't know where you would put it, there is simply no place and no room.

Edit: Yeah, upon googling it, there is absolutely no possibility of expending the video through an internal connector and external adapters aren't going to give you the performance you're looking for either.

In other words, you can't do much of anything to it other than replace the memory, the WiFi card, optical drive, or hard drive.

From what I have gathered the long black slot on the back is MXM. Which would allow an upgrade of the graphics.



EDIT: Digging deeper It is confirmed that he can upgrade the graphics. The Zino HD with onboard graphics is HD3200 which has no additional MXM slot. Since he has the Discrete option on his Zino it is installed in MXM. As long as you can find the correct MXM version GPU there should be no issues

Yes... it have a slot for MXM cards for GPU upgrade, but what card it is compatible with... ?

From the speccs it holds a ATI 3000/4000m that consumes less than 7 watts (For the GPU only) so no you can't upgrade to a 460/5870m

Hi guys, I know I'm quite late to the party but this was the most relevant thread I've found.

Stephanels, did you eventually upgrade your GPU? I think mine just died. Powers on fine, HD spins up, no odd noises, beeps, or smoke, but no video.
