Looking to get a new GPU how ever not sure how to go about this...

Ive got a few ideas...

Two Nvidia GTX 580's in SLI

OR

One Nvidia GTX 590

What would perform better?

personally i have always been told go for the single fastest card you can get over sli as it stops micro stutter and stuff, if this is the case that should mean the 590 which i thought had two 580 chips on board anyways. however this is only what i have been told in the past so just ignore it if its no use :laugh::)

uh 590 is a dual gpu card uses SLI just like 580 sli setup

580 sli is faster then the 590,

best single gpu is a GTX 580 by itself.

Unless I'm mistaken, the 590 is two 580s on one card. Not only that, but it would be easier to add a second 590 later on than try to find an upgrade for the two 580s.

I'm more of a Radeon guy, but in the world of red, the dual-gpu cards have better compatibility than their Crossfire'd counterparts.

The 590 is 2 underclocked "GTX 580" chips in SLI, so it will suffer from microstutter in some cases, as well as dropping to half its effectiveness in games that do not support SLi.

A single GTX 580 is perfect for a single monitor setup, two of them are probably overkill.

2 gtx 580's is faster - much faster, and more overclockable. You can't touch the clocks on a 590, you will pop the vrms, as they are not that strong.

I prefer single GPU unless you are going Massive multi monitor where one card just cant cope, or you will be gaming in 3d... A massively OC'd gtx 580 (like the Gigabytes windforce 580) will give you a better experience in a regular setup than say a 590, IMO...

as the others said, 580's in sli is much faster than a 590. However, your rig will be fine on a single 580. Though for a slightly higher price than a single 580, dual 560 ti 448's will be nearly as fast as 570 sli and much faster than a single 580.

good to know learn something everyday :) aw well just ignore my last post then lol  in this case looks like the single fastest gpu is the 580 which i suppose when i think about it makes sense

cheers for that info though mate :toast:

You have a 23" monitor which means lower than 1920x1200 resolution? If you're staying on that resolution one 580 would be fine. Two would be senseless. You could even save some cash and get an HD 6970 2GB (Lightning model from MSI would be good).
If rumours are true (when are they ever?) new gfx cards - high end- should be out in 3-4 months. And on 28nm they'll probably put the current generation to shame.

Would a 850 watt PSU support two 580s?

On paper yes, but if your PSU's 12V rail is split into 2, you will not be able to support it, since that you will overload one and underload the other.

I ONLY suggest gtx590 if you are building a watercooled LAN gamer.

PS: Phanbuey, maybe that might be a good choice for you in your build as a gpu upgrade "??"

My PSU information states that it does support SLI so my guess is that it should be just fine

I double checked and the website didn't mention about multirail power, so I would assume that all of them are single rail. However, do note that the 326w max power consumed by the GTX580 is going to eat 652w, and the 4GHz 1366 chip is also going to eat upwards of 200w, its going to be a bit tight. You might even need to scale the CPU clock down a bit when running stress tests (which is not recommeneded). For normal use it should be fine, just don't go around Furmarking for hours.

Yeah... I gotta sell a kidney for that though. Im still rocking that i5 from 2 years ago :ohwell:

I can always invest in getting a better PSU at a later date

Well i have got 2 now and temps are abit high really! First run shut down.. Im guessing because of temps as i then ran again and monitored the temps and they where hitting 97c!! Will they till run ok if i move them apart will they still run ok... There next to each other at the moment will they be ok if there not... Improve tue cooling abit? And also any specific settings that i should use in control panel?

Defs try and move them apart, specifically which 580's did you get?

PS I noticed you have a guerilla mobo so if you are using the top two green PCIexpress slots then it would be cramped and will definately be affecting the airflow of your cards.
