New Gran Turismo will be Pay-Per-Car

Kazunori Yamauchi revealed in a interview with japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that Gran Turismo HD will have two SKUs on the PS3.

One of them, Gran Turismo HD: Classic, will ship with no cars, all of them will be purchased via microtransactions.
The other, Gran Turismo HD: Premium, will ship with two courses and 30 cars, with an additional 30 cars and an additional two courses online at a later date.

According to Famitsu cars will cost between 50-100 yen ($0.43-$0.85) and courses between 200-500 yen ($1.71-$4.26). There are approximiately 750 cars and 50 tracks available for purchase in the GT: HD Classic.

The Premium game is being considered a prologue to the PS3's eventual Gran Turismo 5.

I think you are right - there will be people willing to buy a game with a lower Retail price (I'd imagine), and a pay-as-you-play element so that if you are a light/useless gamer you pay less. But its the real gamers who will end up paying the full whack as they try to complete a game.

I think they can use the nuke button to properly bury the PS3, especially considering how hard it will be to program the thing.

WarRock will have wepon(s) you can buy, I think they will let you buy some normal wepons for hours aswell instead of saving up dinars. But it is a free game hopfully that will fix the lag issues they have alot of the time.

If I calculated this right to buy all the cars would be a minimum of $322 and all the tracks would be $85 dollars. And that is using the lowest price, once you consider some of them are more expensive and you will need to pay a bit for the game ot start with the complete game could cost upwards of $500. And I was once going to buy a PS3, definately off the list until I know they aren't planning this for more of their games.

this is foolish, it wont be so bad if they give you the game away for practically nothing and then you have to pay for cars, like the concept of matrix online (but that was pay monthly) if they expect us to pay normal price for the game, something like £30 or $56 then they have just lost me from the PS3 market, im not going to want to pay approx £400 depending on price in UK just to then have to buy a game to then have to pay again to play it! :shadedshu

I wouldn''t give a rats ass if theese items were also unlockable through gameplay, but a pay to play system on something I bought to play to completion is the most blisteringly retarded thing I've ever heard of. I never thought I'd see the day when Sony entered the goldfarming market. I hope someone figures out an unlocking exploit within a few days of release.
