Hi all,
I'd really like to treat myself to some new headphones for my 22nd birthday this month.
I'll be using them at night often, so they can't let too much noise out. Now, as I understand it, this means the best option for me is a set of closed back headphones.
Question one:
How much noise do open sets actually let out? Can the people next to you listen to the music almost as well as you can? My room is right next to someone elses, so don't want to disturb them.
Question two:
How much noise do open headphones actually let in? Can you hear people next to you almost as well as when you're not wearing them? Are they just a bit muffled or are they pretty well blocked out?
Question three:
How much do closed back headphones actually distort the sound? I am by no means a true audiophile, but I do notice differences between different sets. I loved my wireless set when I got it as it let me hear sounds in music I'd never heard before on my old crappy speakers. (Since got new speakers which are excellent!!)
I do like a good bit of bass, but it's not everything to me. I enjoy a huge range of music from classical to happy hardcore, from heavy metal to pop, you get the idea.
Although these cans will primarily be used for music, I will also use them for films and the odd touch of gaming. But I don't need surround sound ones or anything, I don't take it that seriously. Just a spot of Call Of Duty or Need For Speed once in a while.
The horrible question of budget:
I don't really want to spend a fortune. I was thinking £60 - £80 would be a respectable budget, but I honestly don't know what to expect. I have had a look around the internet, but you can get cans from £2 to £2,000 without even trying. So I'm willing to stretch a tad if it's really worth it, but I'd rather spend less!
They've got to be able to hit fairly high volumnes, but not massive, without distortion.
So, in short:
Around £60 - £80
Can't let out much noise. Less is better.
Mainly music. Some films. Occasional games.
