A friend offered to buy my heatsink for the price i originally paid. I haven't been happy with it as even with a second fan i didn't get a very noticeable difference from the stock amd heatsink(albeit the nice one with the heatpipes, not the aluminum brick).

this is the heatsink I have=> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233014

I think a large part of my problem with heatsink is that it can only be oriented to vent out of my PSU, which in my case has a very small bottom fan that is very off center from the cpu cooler.

I have a very strong airflow going across my case to my rear exhaust so i was looking at this similar one that can be oriented towards my rear exhaust=> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835207006

I want to stay around my original $30 price range and I also have a very tall NB cooler and tall RAM, so size is defiantly an issue.

if anyone has any input on the one I'm thinking about or a better suggestion i would appreciate it.

The performance of 92mm heatsinks is almost always dependent of the fan used. High air flow is very important for good air coolers. The fan shipped with your HSF is rated at 54 CFM at top speed.

Are you allowing the fan to run at top speed?

If not, try it and see if that works better. If you are, then it's likely the poor design of the fins that makes it a poor performer.

Also, keep in mind, CPU temperature is as much dependent on the motherboard you are using as the CPU itself. The motherboard may display higher temps than other boards. The motherboard may overvolt the CPU if the BIOS setting of AUTO is used for CPU voltage. For example, a Q6600 may have a VID from 1.20 to 1.35v. If set to AUTO, the motherboard may be applying 1.35v to a CPU only needing 1.25v to operate. This can easily increase your temps by 10*C or more.

Assuming your specs are correct... you have an Athlon X2-6000+? It is a 125W CPU. It requires a lot of voltage and generates a lot of heat. I used to have one and it would easily run at over 65*C under load. I was using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 with mine. I was, however, able to get it to run at about 58-60*C by lowering the CPU voltage in the BIOS by about 0.05-0.075v (I forget exactly).

What are your temps?

Orientation and direction of air flow can make a difference, but don't expect miracles.

I recommend the above one too.And if not satisfied you may have a more powerful fan added to it.

I would recommend the 1283 as well but orientation of the parts is they key here. The NB on my DFI P35's are tall enough I have to mod the 1283 to fit. also with tall spreaders (if you use the closest slot) the fan can cause issues with tall spreaders.

Not calling the 1283 bad in any way, just be sure all areas of interest are looked at.

I actually went ahead and bought this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835207004

its a larger heatsink and it fixes my orentation issue, plus newegg had it for 29.99 with free shipping :)

My northbridge however is over 5cm tall so I still have to figure out what I'm going to do about that, here's a pic of it from newegg => http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.aspx?CurImage=13-153-132-S01&ISList=13-153-132-S01,13-153-132-S02,13-153-132-S03,13-153-132-S04,13-153-132-S05&S7ImageFlag=1&Item=N82E16813153132&Depa=0&WaterMark=1&Description=JetWay%20JHA06-GT-LF%20ATX%20AMD%20Motherboard%20-%20Retail

just to answer mark99 I'm getting nearly from 55-68 load depending on how hot my room is, it's an 89W brisbane and the max listed temp for it is 62 thats with two 92mm fans on my current heatsink both running at 100%.

Those temperatures are not bad. If your room gets that hot to cause a 13*C range of temps, then your case needs some more air flow.

that was supposed to be 55-58, and i really want to be able to overclock a little which seems out of the question when I'm 4c under the max temp, with my friend buying the old heatsink im ending up with a better cooler without losing any money so hopefully I can just find an easy way to work around my NB cooler and pop it in.
