hiya guys n gals of tpu :)

well as the title states i may be building a new rig based around an i5 2500K, the only problem is i have limited funds maybe around £350 at a push :(, which i know is basically nowhere near enough for what i want to do so thats where you guys n gals come in ;)

<----right so the system i have just now is in my system part to the right, i am looking to upgrade all the mobo,ram,gpu (especially gpu) and cpu..the rest such as screen n shiz is fine for just now

i am looking to upgrade for as cheap or on budget as possible and would like your suggestions or advice on the following

i have searched around and can get an i5 off ebay for around the £150 mark think thats the lowest i can get one

ram- preferably 8gig not bothered about brand much (suggestions)

motherboard- all i have saw that i am willing to spend is MATX boards, why i am so stumped with boards is because my crappy board i have just now (asus p5kpl) is poo:banghead: and i would like a decent board which will overclock well :toast: and not to make the same mistake twice, i would also maybe like it to be xfire/sli ready which is BIG push with the gpu needing purcahsed :(

GPU- now this is the problem i originally was just gonna get a 560ti, that was until the upgrade and money in the pocket bug bit me and i wanted an i5, the question being would the upgrade to an i5 and the skimping on a gpu say down to a normal 560 or even a 550ti be that bad a jump back:confused: or is there any better ati cards that are on par with the 560/560ti for cheaper?

====================================================================

to summarise

budget =£350 maybe £370

cpu - intel 2500k = £150

£170-£190 left for everything else :(:ohwell:

motherboard = ??? (decent overclocker... if possible sli/xfire)
RAM= ??? (any branding preferably 8gig)
GPU= 550ti £100 roughly/ maybe a 560 or ati equivalent (if i decide to upgrade the lot if nto current rig and 560ti?)

MUST FIT ROUGHLY UNDER OR ON BUDGET oh and i game at 1080p ;)

thansk guys n gals sorry for the long windness late and my heads puggled with crimbo stress lol :cry::laugh:

I think one hath had one too many christmas tipples :rolleyes:

You will get an 2500k, motherboard and RAM for your budget, you won't fit an GPU into it, not a decent one anyway, up it by £50 and you will be able to squeeze something in, lemme have a look on Ebuyer and see what I can come up with :toast:

Here, I rest my c ase about the GPU pushing it, this is with a cheap 8GB set, one of the cheapest P67 boards (you want P67 or Z68 to overclock) and an 6870 which you should be aiming for in terms of performance...

You might knock £10-£20 off by swapping the 8GB set for 4GB and going with an 6850 classed GPU but aside from that you are looking at or around the £400 mark with GPU, without one, you're fine.

Edit: BTW I have had that board and although it's fairly cheap it's 8 phase VRM overclocked my 2500k to 4.5ghz no problemo ;)

and yeah my budget is very tight at the moment :/ i was thinking if i cant fit everything maybe just priority goes to the gpu for a 560ti ? and leaving the rest of the system as is?

oh and just realised the m-atx mobos around 50 quid on ebay and such dont have a pci slot need one for tv card.. just to chuck another spanner in the works

appreciate your time for reading and tryna make sense tha mate cheers :laugh:

The 6870 is better than the 550 Ti and close to 560 performance but the 560's cost around £170 iirc?

Get the i5 2500k for 150, get a £25 set of 4GB RAM, and try and get an P67 based 1155 motherboard for £60 that would give you £120 for an GPU and if you're lucky you might find an 6870 for that, otherwise grab an HD 5850 as they can be had for that kind of money and have the same performance as the 6870, I recommended 6870 cause it's newer tech, uses less power etc

Try this, with your £150 2500K you are at £365 inc del:

Your current q6600, mobo and RAM should fecth you £100 then at £450 you have a lot more choice of CPU, RAM, mobo and GPU :toast:

Much better off buying a decent GPU (and maybe ram) now and saving some more for the other stuff. I learnt this the hard way, don't do the same! :D

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157040 Oh yeah check that out, sure it'll be quite a bit more than a 2500k, but once you discover what RAMdisk is, you'll reconsider. ;)

The point is , that you can buy new GTX460 for $140, where GTX 580 will cost you $500 and it is nowhere near 360% more powerful , but some bare 36% for 3.6 time the money.

ok guys got this so far decided i would dropa few features and save a few pennies ;)

i5 2500k --£157

asrock p67 pro mobo --£62.50
http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=P67 Pro

4gig pny optima drr3 --£13.92

£233.42 :)

which leaves me with 87.58 for a gpu,however come the 7th of january i get my next student payment and may stick 20-30 quid to make it £100 or slightly more

so basically gpu suggestions for around the 100 quid odds mark maybe more if i decide to save a couple of months :)

so what you are saying is to spend on a gpu for my current rig just now? and maybe ram?, ram will have to be missed as this silly mobo only takes 4gig and its maxed out got another 8 gig kicking around :/

thanks
Yeah, go for the GPU, C2Q's aren't too bad, a performance GPU, say, 6950, 6970 or 570 shouldn't bottleneck that. Oh and you never mentioned what the system is for, mainly gaming? If so I'd forget the whole cpu and mobo altogether and go with the gpu and an SSD.

But.. that's just me :D

yeah the system will be used mainly for general everythingness :laugh: however i was wanting the new upgrade for the likes of battlefield and stuff so yeah some gaming aswell

i was gonna go that route but saw a few price drops on the good old Fle-bay (ebay) and decided i would purchase the mobo,cpu and ram then when it arrives sell off some old parts and place it towards a gpu aswell, therefore i have the full package :D

thanks for the input :toast:

Yeah but its still 10er or that better off in my pocket sice my budgets insanely tight

oh and yeah its retail boxed with 3 year warranty not oem one

Be very careful with the warranty. If you are buying from an regular Ebay seller or a normal Ebay business seller you'll lose the warranty as it will count as second hand in the eyes of Intel, 9/10 they wont have a RMA process in place either, so you'll only be able to dispute a fault within 45 days of Ebay's buyer protection. Ideally you want a Ebay seller that is also a proper established company so you'll still qualify for their RMA service. For example Ebuyer and Dabs both sell through Ebay.

Unless its an official and established shop selling through ebay, I would only buy from a normal seller if I was getting a signficant saving.
