New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

Building new new PC. I've got a Windows 10 disk but no DVD drive in the new build.

Can i just copy the files from the Windows 10 disk to a clean flash drive and then boot from usb?

If i have to go though a lot hoopla i'll just hook up a temp drive to the mobo from the outside.

If downloading a 3,5 GB file isn’t a problem then try Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, it’ll download Windows 10 image and setup installation files on USB stick.

I recommend that You Keep that disk even if you don't have a DVD drive now , you never know when you might need a physical copy of windows. Put it on a bookshelf or inside of a hutch with your family pictures, or wherever you know it will be safe until you remove it

The fall creators update has a few bugs. if you feel like it won't bother you then go ahead, but if a couple issues with the start menu or the task bar, or some other things might annoy you ,then it may be best to wait.

As far as I've noticed there's not been any impact on gaming or performance just the windows environment itself

No bugs for me in UI, taskbar ok and I use classic shell for start menu. There seemed to be a bsod issue with NVidia sli, latest driver seems to resolve that for me.

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

Would you suggest an experiment with a dirty upgrade to rs4 latest insider, would it offer more stability with exotic hardware/ performance? or too risky?

im not sure what you mean

all i was offering the OP was the benefit of the experience of having already installed win10 FCU....since he has the option to not install it until say a week or two down the road when they've had time to iron out any little issues, what he does with my advice is up to him.

i didnt get it for a minute. i would recommend the most stable, well tested OS for anyone, exotic HW or not...but im FARRRRR from a Expert

i cant comment on that , sorry.

as i mentioned, always go for whatever is more mature, especially with more specialized, or high end HW.

Also keep in mind that we're talking about windows here , 99% of the time the biggest problem anyone ever has is an inconvenience at best . very rarely are their system breaking issues, or are issues that are widespread in large portions of the community

I always just use the Microsoft Media Creation tool, it downloads the ISO and puts it on the flash drive for you. Though, it always downloads the latest version, so you'd get the Fall Creator's Update right away. Personally, I don't see much point in waiting to get it. I installed it right when it came out, and it did have some UI bugs. But all of the ones I had were fixed with new graphics card drivers.

yeah that's what I did too, but one might want to have at least 3rd party theme patching supported, aero glass etc. . but those are indeed just fluff/ inconvenience as mentioned.
@jboydgolfer : actually there were many system breaking issues with windows 10 in the recent past, the web is full of them, but I guess it is not unique to windows 10 only. As I said, until NVidia released the latest whql driver, I had constant browser bsod related to nvlddmkm.dll (NVidia) with fall creators update. Also it might have helped that I fiddled with some chipset bios settings

Mostly, I'm just apprehensive about using a new OS. I was the same way when moving from XP to Windows 7. I was just making a mountain out of a mole hill. I just hope I'm doing the same thing. I was going to do a dual boot system but it looks like they are no chipset drivers for the z370 under Windows 7. Oh well, i just need to listen to a little calming music...hardwired to self destruct it is then.

BTW it is not unusual for flash drives to have ISO format. If you have a computer with a DVD drive you can just copy and paste the ISO to the flash drive in a hex editor.

EDIT: Note that I said in a hex editor. Just copying the files over with explorer WILL NOT WORK because the bootloader wouldn't be at the right place (if it is transferred at all).

Never mind, i googled it. No it's for a new build and i'm using a Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 mobo and they don't have any chipset drivers listed under Windows 7.

Download them from the Intel site. I have a Kaby Lake computer working under Windows 7 with all it's drivers (and unlocked windows update if needed).
